Indian actor and host Sonam Chhabra walked the red carpet at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and made a big impact, not just with her fashion but also with a strong message about India’s strength and resilience.
On May 17, Sonam attended the premiere of Die, My Love, a film starring Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence. The film received a six-minute standing ovation, but it was Sonam’s outfit that got people talking on social media.
She wore a dramatic outfit she called “Phoenix Rising.” It included a strapless silver top shaped like wings, a white skirt with a knot in front, chunky silver jewellery, and a tiara. But the most powerful part of her look was a long white cape that featured the names of places in India that have suffered terror attacks: Mumbai (2008), Uri (2016), Pulwama (2019), and Pahalgam (2025). In big letters, it also had the word “UNBROKEN” — a tribute to India’s unshaken spirit.
Although she removed the cape before walking the red carpet, Sonam’s message had already reached people around the world. Her look reminded everyone of the strength and unity of the Indian people, even in the face of tragedy.
This was Sonam’s second time attending Cannes. Sharing her photos online, she wrote:
“Ladies and gentlemen, HER! Returned to the Cannes Red Carpet for the second time wearing this outfit I’d call ‘Phoenix Rising’ — a symbol of strength and rising from the ashes!”
With her powerful message and bold fashion, Sonam Chhabra proved that fashion can go beyond beauty — it can carry meaning, memory, and hope.
