If Your Child Has These 9 Traits, Then They Are Likely to Be Successful, and You Are Probably Raising a Genius

There is no universal definition of a genius. Albert Einstein was considered a genius by most academics and had an estimated IQ (intelligence quotient) of around 160.  Elon Musk and Bill Gates have an  IQ believed to be in the range of 150 to 160.  Most children that test over 140 on an IQ test are considered a genius.  Genius does not have one standard.

Many children are uniquely gifted and highly intelligent in their own way in which IQ tests may not measure. No your child does not have to be a member of Mensa, the longest recognized high IQ society to be considered gifted or a genius.   Doctors, educators, and neuroscientists that study highly intelligent and gifted children often provide 9 traits or 9 characteristics of children that are genius as stated below:

Key characteristics of a potential genius and or gifted child: 

  1. High Curiosity and almost unlimited levels curiosity. Genius and gifted children are often asking  many questions, and displaying a curiosity to know why things happen and exist and  a desire to learn things with greater depth and clarity. 
  2. Incredibly Fast learning abilities. Absorbing information quickly with few repetitions needed. 
  3. Advanced understanding and deep comprehension.  Understanding concepts well beyond their age level. 
  4. Spontaneous and Creative thinking.  Able to develop impromptu solutions to problems and or creative thinking and problem solving in a different or unique way.
  5. High level of memory. Great memory retention skills and displays a high capacity to remember details and information. 
  6. Focused interests. Passionate about specific topics, often beyond typical interests for their age 
  7. Mature mentality. Shows understanding beyond their years or age group and are able to take complex concepts and simplify them or display a deep understanding of complex concepts and may have a high level of social awareness and self-awareness.
  8. Unique wit or humor. High level wit and unique sense of humor.  Jokes are wordplay demonstrates uniqueness and or originality.
  9. High level of concentration and focus. High level ability to concentrate for extended periods on challenging tasks

Teach and Foster Emotional Literacy.  Teach and encourage your child to learn to express their emotions and articulate how they feel and how to manage their emotions and self-regulate.  Learn from professionals such as child cognitive and behavioral experts, mental well being experts to help learn the best ways to motivate, foster, emotionally support your child to enhance their emotional intelligence.
  4. Mindfulness and Gratitude.  Help your child learn gratitude and to be thankful for the positive things and positive family support will help ensure your child grows and develop both mentally and emotionally.
  5. Use Positive Affirmations and Positive Self-Talk on a regular basis with your child .  Teach and read to your child positive affirmations that are inspirational and motivational.  The positive affirmations can be about life, learning, love, hope, etc. 

Your child does not need to be a genius to be successful.  Positive encouragement, love, and nurturing your child in a positive and supportive environment is the key to develop your child’s abilities and help them to be successful.
