Nicole Kidman brought classic Hollywood glamour with a dramatic edge to the London premiere of Practical Magic 2, arriving in a custom Chanel gown that made an immediate impression on the red carpet.
Styled by Jason Bolden, the Oscar-winning actress chose a shimmering silver-white creation covered in sequins and intricate crystal details. The fitted gown followed her silhouette before opening into a floor-length skirt, with a high side slit adding a bold finish to the otherwise elegant design.
The custom Chanel dress featured a deep sweetheart neckline that looked its most dramatic detail. Across the chest and shoulders, strands of crystal-covered chains created a fringe-like effect, almost resembling delicate armour.
The sparkling embellishments caught the light with every movement, while the fitted waist and hips gave the gown a clean, sculpted shape. The high slit then broke up the long skirt, revealing Kidman’s leg as she moved along the carpet.
Rather than adding numerous accessories, Kidman allowed the dress to remain the centre of attention. She wore metallic gold Chanel sandals with a simple ankle strap, giving the otherwise silver-toned outfit a subtle contrast.
Her jewellery also came from Chanel, including L’Esprit Du Lion earrings and the N°5 Drop Ring. An Omega Constellation watch completed the accessories.
Kidman’s styling kept the beauty side of the appearance understated. Her long blonde hair was worn straight, with curtain bangs framing her face.
She opted for glowing skin, soft pink lips, subtle blush and shimmering eye makeup. The combination kept the overall appearance polished without competing with the heavily embellished gown.
The result was a balance between old-school red-carpet elegance and something considerably bolder.
The sparkling gown also suited the atmosphere surrounding Practical Magic 2. The film continues the story of sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, played by Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, bringing the actresses back together for another supernatural adventure.
That makes the crystal-covered gown particularly fitting for the London premiere. The reflective embellishments and sweeping silhouette have an almost fantasy-like quality, while the sharp slit and plunging neckline look a distinctly modern edge.
One of the most interesting details is the use of crystal chains across the neckline rather than a traditional necklace. Instead of simply accessorising the gown, the jewellery-like embellishment becomes part of its construction.
Chanel has a long history of incorporating chains into its designs, with the house’s chain motif famously appearing across handbags, jewellery and clothing. Here, that familiar detail is turned into a dramatic red-carpet element.
Kidman’s appearance also shows why highly embellished gowns continue to work on major premieres. Under strong flash photography and event lighting, sequins and crystals create movement even when the wearer is standing still.
