Delhi Schools Announce First Nursery Admission List for Upcoming Session

Delhi Schools Announce First Nursery Admission List for Upcoming Session

Private schools in Delhi will release the first list of selected candidates for nursery admissions for the 2026–27 academic session today, January 23, 2026. This announcement is a significant milestone in the admission process for families across the city.

On January 16, schools published the points allotted to applicants for entry-level classes, including Nursery, KG, and Class 1. Points were assigned according to Directorate of Education guidelines, based on criteria such as distance from school, sibling status, alumni connections, and other approved parameters.

First List to Include Over 1.25 Lakh Children

Officials report that approximately 1,741 private unaided schools in Delhi will publish their first admission list today. The list will include nearly 1.25 lakh children, covering both selected candidates and those on the waiting list.

Parents can check admission status on school notice boards or official school websites.

Query Period and Second List Release

Parents with concerns about the points awarded to their child may submit queries from January 24 to February 3, 2026. Schools must address these objections within this period.

The second list of selected candidates will be released on February 9, 2026. The admission process for entry-level classes will conclude on March 19, 2026.

Age Requirements for Admission

For the 2026–27 academic session, children must meet the following age requirements as of March 31, 2026:

  • Nursery: Minimum 3 years
  • KG: Minimum 4 years
  • Class 1: Minimum 5 years

Schools may grant an age relaxation of up to 1 month, subject to the head of the school’s approval.

Officials clarified that children admitted to Nursery in 2025–26 will automatically advance to KG in 2026–27, and those in KG will move to Class 1. Therefore, new Nursery admissions for 2026–27 are only for children who have completed three years, not four, by the cut-off date.

To ensure transparency and compliance, a district-level monitoring cell has been established to oversee the admission process and address parents’ grievances.

Parents are advised to monitor important dates and check school updates regularly to avoid missing deadlines. For further details, please refer to official school communications or Directorate of Education guidelines.
