A.P.C. is going through another change as Ludivine Poiblanc steps in as the new artistic director. This is a big moment for the Paris label, since Poiblanc is the first person from outside the company to lead its design team. The brand was founded by Jean Touitou and his wife Judith Touitou.
This news comes only a few months after Stephanie Phair became president, a move made by majority shareholder L Catterton. It is part of a larger restructuring at the brand.
Poiblanc has had a long career in fashion styling and editorial work, contributing to magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, and WSJ Magazine. She has also helped brands with image direction and product development, earning a reputation for her strong visual storytelling and attention to detail.
At A.P.C., Poiblanc will help guide both the brand’s collections and its creative direction. Her first collection will be shown on May 20 at the Milan showroom, with another presentation at the Rue Madame headquarters in Paris on June 15.
A.P.C. was founded in 1987 and is known for its simple French style, sharp tailoring, and high-quality basics, especially its famous Japanese denim. Unlike many other brands, A.P.C. avoided flashy ads and big runway shows, choosing a quieter and more personal take on luxury.
But the fashion world has changed a lot in recent years. After L Catterton took control in 2023, there were higher hopes for growth. Executives said the brand could grow well beyond its reported €100 million in yearly sales. However, tougher markets and more competition have made that harder.
With Poiblanc taking on this new role, A.P.C. seems to be balancing its traditions with new ideas. The brand is keeping its minimalist style but also searching for fresh ways to grow and reach more people around the world.
For many in fashion, her appointment signals more than a leadership update. It reflects a broader question facing heritage contemporary brands today: how to modernize without losing the character that made them relevant in the first place.
