Delhi Govt Announces Scholarships for SC, ST, OBC Students with Up to Rs 20 Lakh Support

The Delhi Government has opened applications for a range of scholarships to support SC, ST, and OBC students in the 2025-26 academic year. Students can apply through the e-district portal until April 30, 2026. The goal is to make education more affordable and accessible for everyone.

The announcement includes several programs, with five funded by the state and others by the central government. These scholarships are available to students in schools, colleges, and universities throughout Delhi. For Classes 1 to 12 at recognized schools, the government will cover tuition and other required fees. To qualify, families must have an annual income of no more than Rs 3 lakh, and students need to meet attendance and academic requirements.

For those pursuing higher education, including professional and technical courses, merit-based scholarships have been introduced to ease financial pressure. Eligible students with at least 60 percent marks in the previous academic year can receive financial support from Rs 8,000 to Rs 24,000 annually. The amount varies by study level and whether the student is a hosteller or day scholar, addressing different needs.

One of the main features of this initiative is the Dr B.R. Ambedkar State Topper Award. It gives Rs 25,000 to the top SC, ST, and OBC students in each university subject. The award is meant to recognize academic excellence and encourage students to do their best.

Additionally, the Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana provides financial support for school students. Students in Classes 9 and 10 are eligible for Rs 5,000 annually, while those in Classes 11 and 12 are eligible for Rs 10,000 annually. These benefits depend on income criteria and academic performance, ensuring that support reaches those who need it most and that studies are consistent.

The government has also included provisions for students pursuing education abroad. SC students selected for master’s or doctoral studies can receive up to Rs 5 lakh per year. Total support can reach Rs 10 lakh for master’s programs and Rs 20 lakh for PhD programs, depending on eligibility criteria such as income limits and age. This part of the scheme aims to open global academic opportunities for students facing financial constraints.

In short, this initiative helps students at every level, from school to studying abroad. By providing financial support and rewarding merit, the Delhi Government aims to make education more inclusive, enabling deserving students to achieve their goals without financial barriers.
