The Royal Television Society has chosen Sophie Jones as its new Chief Executive Officer, bringing a key leadership change to one of the UK’s top media groups. She will replace Theresa Wise, who is retiring later this year after leaving a strong legacy.
Jones is now the Chief Strategy Officer at the British Phonographic Industry, where she has helped shape strategy and build industry partnerships. Since 2020, she has worked on major music projects, including the BRIT Awards and the Mercury Prize.
Before her time at the BPI, Jones was Head of Corporate Relations at Channel 4. This job gave her important experience in broadcasting, policy, and industry relations, which will be useful in her new role at RTS.
As CEO, Jones will work with the Society’s board of trustees and manage a range of activities. These include educational programs, industry awards, conventions, and the group’s national and regional centers. She will also focus on building the RTS community and expanding opportunities for talent in the industry.
Jones said her new job is a big responsibility and an opportunity to continue her predecessor’s work. This leadership change comes at a time when the media industry is changing quickly, with new audience habits, digital platforms, and content formats.
RTS leaders say they are confident in her ability to lead the organization during this time. Her background in music, broadcasting, and strategy should help her face the challenges and opportunities ahead.
As the Royal Television Society continues to support excellence and innovation in the UK’s media sector, the appointment of Jones shows a focus on the future. The aim is to balance tradition with the demands of a fast-changing industry.
