L’Oréal Canada appoints Stéphane Bérubé as President and CEO

L’Oréal Canada has named Stéphane Bérubé as its next President and CEO, starting June 1, 2026. This is a major milestone, as Bérubé will be the first Canadian to lead the company’s operations in Canada.

This appointment is part of a wider leadership transition at L’Oréal Group and shows the company’s commitment to promoting experienced leaders from within its global team.

Bérubé takes over from An Verhulst-Santos, who led L’Oréal Canada for the past five years. After her time in Montreal, she will become Non-Executive Chairwoman of L’Oréal Brazil, a new role focused on building relationships with key partners and institutions in this important market.

Stéphane Bérubé has over 20 years of experience at L’Oréal. He started in 2002 as Brand Director for Maybelline New York Canada and has since moved up through several key leadership roles, building his expertise and contributing to the company’s growth.

He has served as General Manager of L’Oréal Paris Canada and as Chief Marketing Officer of L’Oréal Canada. His achievements in Canada led to an international role as Chief Marketing Officer for Western Europe, broadening his global experience in the beauty industry.

In 2019, Bérubé came back to Canada to lead the Consumer Products Division. During his time there, sales grew by nearly 50 percent, and he pushed forward digital transformation, e-commerce growth, and data-driven marketing.

L’Oréal believes Bérubé’s strong knowledge of the Canadian market and his international experience make him the right person to lead the company’s next stage of growth.

With consumer habits changing, the beauty industry is focusing more on connecting online and in-store shopping. Bérubé is expected to help L’Oréal Canada stay strong in this fast-changing market and keep investing in innovation, digital tools, and customer engagement.

The transition has been carefully planned. Bérubé and Verhulst-Santos will work together from April to June to make sure the handover goes smoothly and responsibilities are transferred without disruption.

This announcement also marks Stéphanie Binette’s return to Canada. After a successful leadership career in the United States, she will take over the Consumer Products Division from Bérubé.

These appointments come after other recent leadership changes at L’Oréal Canada, such as naming Laurie Bouchard as Chief Corporate Affairs and Engagement Officer.

Founded in 1958, L’Oréal Canada has become one of the company’s key subsidiaries. It has its headquarters, manufacturing, and distribution center in Montreal, plus a sales office in Toronto. The company also includes subsidiaries like ModiFace and SalonCentric.

Today, L’Oréal Canada employs over 2,000 people from more than 80 nationalities, showing the diversity of both Canada and the global company.

As Stéphane Bérubé becomes President and CEO, L’Oréal Canada starts a new chapter with a leader who has grown within the company. His appointment is both a personal milestone and a sign of L’Oréal’s trust in local leadership as it builds its presence in North America’s dynamic beauty market.
