Katy Perry is giving fans a glimpse into one of the most emotional chapters of her life as she prepares to release her new single, “Watch It Burn,” on June 26.
During a recent appearance on the Unfamous podcast with songwriter Justin Tranter, Perry spoke openly about the inspiration behind the song, revealing that it was written during a particularly difficult period.
The singer explained that both “Watch It Burn” and “Band-Aids” were created from “a place of vulnerability, intention, and emotional truth.”
Speaking about the upcoming track, Perry admitted that she was confronting emotions she doesn’t usually express in her music.
“In Watch It Burn, I am wrestling with my darkness,” she shared.
The Grammy-nominated singer said she has never seen herself as someone who embraces a victim mentality, even during life’s toughest moments.
Reflecting on the previous year, Perry described it as one of the hardest periods of her life.
“It would have been easy for me to fall into that weird victim triangle,” she explained. Instead, she chose to face her emotions head-on, allowing herself to experience the pain and anger before learning from it.
A Song About Growth
Perry revealed that “Watch It Burn” is divided into two emotional parts.
The first half focuses on acknowledging the difficult emotions she was experiencing, while the second half focuses on finding the courage to share those feelings with the world through music.
For Perry, the song is about not only heartbreak but also healing, self-reflection, and personal growth.
Ahead of the song’s release, the pop star teased “Watch It Burn” on Instagram by sharing a dramatic video featuring herself holding a baseball bat, leaving fans eager to hear the full track.
Although Perry did not directly explain what made the past year so challenging, the singer ended her engagement to actor Orlando Bloom in 2025 after nearly a decade together. The former couple shares a daughter, Daisy Dove.
Throughout her career, Katy Perry has often used music to tell personal stories, but she says this new chapter feels especially honest.
With “Watch It Burn,” she transforms difficult emotions into a message of resilience, reminding listeners that even life’s darkest moments can become opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
