Arabella Romi Opens Up About Love, Loss, and Finding Strength Through Music

Arabella Romi Psychopath

Australian-born alt-pop/country artist Arabella Romi is quickly emerging as one of music’s most authentic new voices. With her emotionally charged single “Psychopath” out now, Arabella brings raw vulnerability to the forefront, blending unfiltered honesty with the storytelling roots of country music. Produced by Emmy Award-winner Trey Bruce, the track captures the whirlwind of emotions tied to long-distance love—anxiety, overthinking, and the fear of unraveling connection.

From the Central Coast of New South Wales to Nashville’s competitive music scene, Arabella has carved her own path by embracing imperfection, resilience, and realness. Her journey reflects not just the making of an artist but the growth of a woman who refuses to be anything but herself.

In this exclusive conversation with About Insider, interviewed by Dr. Gaurav Gulati, Arabella opens up about the inspiration behind “Psychopath,” her collaboration with Trey Bruce, and what she hopes fans take away from her music.

WELCOME TO ABOUT INSIDER, ARABELLA ROMI! WE’RE SO GLAD TO HAVE YOU HERE WITH ABOUT INSIDER. HOW ARE YOU FEELING WITH THE RELEASE OF “PSYCHOPATH” OUT IN THE WORLD?
Thank you! I’m so glad to be here. Honestly, I’m absolutely over the moon. It’s been such a long time coming, and to finally release a song that feels like such a true representation of me is incredible. It’s just so rewarding to see something you’ve worked so hard on, for so long, finally come to life.

“PSYCHOPATH” IS SUCH A RAW AND VULNERABLE TRACK. CAN YOU WALK US THROUGH THE EMOTIONS YOU WERE EXPERIENCING WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED WRITING IT?
Honestly, I was a little heartbroken, maybe a lot. I’d met this amazing guy, we totally clicked, and then out of nowhere he dropped the ‘I’m moving to Texas for three years’ bomb. Classic. I started writing “Psychopath” with Trey probably a week after he left, so everything was still super fresh. I was in my feels, spiraling a bit, and all of that kind of spilled into the song. It’s raw, it’s vulnerable… and maybe just a little unhinged in the best way.

LONG-DISTANCE LOVE CAN TAKE SUCH A TOLL ON THE MIND AND HEART. HOW MUCH OF THIS SONG CAME DIRECTLY FROM YOUR PERSONAL STORY VERSUS OBSERVATION OR STORYTELLING?
Every inch of “Psychopath” came directly from my own experience. Writing the song felt like a therapy session for me, a way to process everything that was going on. Putting those feelings into words helped me make sense of it all… kind of. In the end, I got a song that’s honest and real and if I do say so myself… pretty awesome.

YOU’VE DESCRIBED YOUR MUSIC AS UNFILTERED AND HONEST. HAS IT EVER FELT SCARY TO PUT SO MUCH OF YOURSELF INTO YOUR SONGS, KNOWING LISTENERS WILL CONNECT WITH THOSE VERY PERSONAL TRUTHS?
I think at the start, I definitely felt a little nervous about putting so much of myself out there. But the truth is, people connect with songs they relate to, and people really value honesty, just like I do. “Psychopath” came from such a raw, personal place that it didn’t feel right to change the narrative. I feel like there’s something so powerful in knowing an artist has created a track from a place of vulnerability, it makes the connection feel that much more real.

WORKING WITH EMMY AWARD-WINNER TREY BRUCE MUST HAVE BEEN A DEFINING MOMENT. WHAT WAS IT LIKE COLLABORATING WITH HIM, AND HOW DID HE HELP SHAPE “PSYCHOPATH”?
Trey Bruce… What an insanely talented man. Honestly, working with him was such a dream come true. From the moment we started writing together, I knew something just clicked. I came into the session knowing what I wanted to say with “Psychopath”, but Trey has this incredible ability to take what’s in your head, and heart, and turn it into something even bigger than you imagined. He brought the song to life in a way I couldn’t have done on my own. His instincts, his ear, his experience… it’s next level. And the way he pushes you creatively, but also makes you feel totally safe to be vulnerable — it’s rare. I feel so lucky to have had him help shape this track, and even luckier to now call him a mentor.

YOUR JOURNEY FROM THE CENTRAL COAST OF NEW SOUTH WALES TO NASHVILLE IS INCREDIBLE. WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF CARVING YOUR OWN PATH IN SUCH A COMPETITIVE INDUSTRY?
It’s definitely been crazy, I mean, who knew chasing a dream could be this wild, right? I think the toughest part has been reminding myself to stay true to who I am and what I want to say. It’s so easy to get caught up trying to fit into what’s ‘in’ or what the industry expects at the moment.

YOU’VE BUILT A GROWING PERSONAL BRAND AROUND AUTHENTICITY AND EMOTIONAL STORYTELLING. WHAT DO YOU HOPE FANS FEEL WHEN THEY THINK OF ARABELLA ROMI, THE ARTIST AND THE PERSON?
I hope when people think of Arabella Romi, they see someone real, someone who’s not afraid to be vulnerable and honest. But honestly, I’m just a human like everyone else. I feel like a lot of people haven’t seen my funny, unserious side… but trust me, it’s definitely there, more often than not actually! I want my music and story to connect with people on a genuine level, making them feel seen and understood. If I can inspire even one person to embrace their true self, messy emotions, imperfect moments, and all — then I’m doing something right.

LOOKING AHEAD, WHAT CAN YOUR FANS AND OUR READERS HERE AT ABOUT INSIDER EXPECT FROM YOU IN THE COMING MONTHS? ANY SURPRISES YOU’RE EXCITED ABOUT?
There’s definitely more unfiltered music on the way — best believe it. I’m heading back to Nashville soon to record new tracks with Trey, which is such an exciting step in my journey. On top of that, I’ve got some festival shows lined up, which feels like a real milestone and a huge accomplishment. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come and can’t wait to share what’s next with my fans and everyone following along.

AND FINALLY, WHEN YOU DREAM ABOUT THE FUTURE, WHETHER IT’S FESTIVALS, COLLABORATIONS, OR YOUR FIRST FULL ALBUM, WHAT’S THE “BLUE MOON” MOMENT YOU’RE CHASING AS AN ARTIST?
Honestly, it’s all of the above! Festivals, collaborations, and my first full album, those are all dreams I’m chasing. And, if I’m being honest, I wouldn’t mind a Chris Stapleton and Arabella Romi collab… I wouldn’t mind at all.
