Canadian Para snowboarder Tyler Turner was named Best Male Winter Athlete at the 2025 Para Sport Awards. This award highlights his impressive season and his status as one of Canada’s top Para athletes.
Turner had a standout 2024-2025 season, winning the Crystal Globe for topping the overall standings and claiming his third straight world title in snowboard cross at the FIS 2025 Para Snowboard World Championships. Winning at home in Canada made the victory even more special.
Turner competes in the SB LL1 classification and has made history throughout his career. He was the first Canadian to win a Paralympic gold medal in Para snowboard, taking the top spot in men’s snowboard cross at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. He also earned a bronze medal in banked slalom.
His success spans multiple major events. At the World Para Snow Sports Championships in Lillehammer 2021, held in 2022 due to the pandemic, Turner collected a full set of medals with gold in the team event, silver in snowboard cross, and bronze in dual banked slalom.
Turner said he was truly honored by the award and thanked his teammates, Canada Snowboard, and his family. He shared his pride in competing at the top level of Paralympic sport and representing Canada against the world’s best.
Outside of competition, Turner is also an adventurer and motivational speaker. His journey from a life-changing accident to becoming a Paralympic champion has made him a strong example of resilience and determination.
The Para Sport Awards recognize athletes, coaches, and volunteers who help grow Para sports around the world. For the 2025 awards, achievements from May 2023 to March 2025 were considered.
