Sixteen-year-old singer, songwriter, producer and musician Olie Beckett has released his new EP, THE ONE. The five-track project showcases his versatility as an artist, combining dance-pop with R&B influences and bringing together his skills as a vocalist, songwriter, producer and performer.
THE ONE takes listeners on a musical journey, beginning with “UNLOCK,” a slow, smoky R&B track featuring Middle Eastern-inspired melodies. The EP then moves into the energetic atmosphere of the dance floor with “GRAPHIC T-SHIRT,” a song about love at first sight, followed by “WIN YOU OVER,” an upbeat track driven by an energetic rhythm.
“GRAND PRIX” brings a smooth, fast-paced feel, capturing the sensation of a getaway with the windows down before building towards its finish. The EP closes with “HIGH ON LOVE,” a warm and uplifting track featuring golden synths and a soaring tenor performance from Beckett. Across its five songs, the project moves through different moods while maintaining its dance-floor appeal.
Beckett draws musical inspiration from acclaimed artists and songwriters including Harry Styles, SZA and Ariana Grande. His musical journey began with singing in church, which developed into a passion for songwriting and piano. Over time, he expanded his skills to digital music production, taking on the creative process himself, from lyrics and instrumentation to vocals.
Growing up in a musical household, Beckett was surrounded by music from an early age. His father worked in a radio office, while his mother often hummed melodies at home. An early fascination with electronic music and Marshmello’s performances also inspired his initial dream of becoming a DJ.
Beckett later auditioned for a national choir, began vocal training and continued singing at his local church. His vocal teacher, Melissa, introduced him to the dramatic elements of musical theatre, while his mentor Mr. B helped him explore music composition and production tools such as Logic Pro X. These experiences helped shape his approach, combining emotional expression with technical precision.
For Beckett, songwriting begins with emotion. Once he finds the right feeling and chords, the remaining elements—including bass lines and drums—often follow instinctively. His creative process brings together melody, technique and personal expression, allowing him to develop a sound that reflects his own identity.
The release of THE ONE adds to Beckett’s growing recognition. His work has received attention from publications including Sweety High, Galore, NICK Music and Earmilk. Earmilk described him as “a talented vocalist and pianist” who is sure to be an influential figure in pop, while Atwood Magazine highlighted his distinctive sense of self and optimistic outlook. V13 also praised the retro charm of his high tenor.
