HP Inc. has appointed Emma Walmsley, former chief executive of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), as its new Chief Executive Officer. She will take charge on January 4, 2027, succeeding Bruce Broussard, who has served as interim CEO since February 2026.

As part of the leadership transition, Broussard will become Chair of HP’s Board on January 4, succeeding Chip Bergh. Bergh has held the position since 2017 and has been a board member since 2015.

Walmsley brings extensive leadership experience to HP. She served as CEO of GSK from April 2017 to December 2025, overseeing a major transformation of the pharmaceutical company. During her nearly nine-year tenure, she strengthened GSK’s focus on specialty medicines and vaccines, revitalised its research and development pipeline, and improved its balance sheet following the separation of its consumer healthcare business. She also served on Microsoft’s board of directors for seven years.

Commenting on her appointment, Walmsley said HP is an iconic company with a defining role in shaping the future of work globally. She said the company would focus on harnessing the opportunities of the AI era and using its creativity and innovation to unlock new growth opportunities and deliver lasting value for customers, shareholders, partners and employees.

Walmsley’s appointment comes at a challenging time for HP, as the company faces a memory-chip shortage that has driven up prices and put pressure across the technology industry. Her leadership is expected to guide HP through the evolving technology landscape, with a focus on innovation and growth.
