Sajith Sivanandan Set to Lead Tata Digital as CEO from September 1

Tata Digital CEO Sajith Sivanandan

In a strategic move signalling renewed focus on its digital ambitions, Tata Digital has announced the appointment of Sajith Sivanandan as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective September 1, 2025.

Sivanandan, who served as president of Jio Mobile Digital Services earlier this year, is expected to steer the Tata Group’s e-commerce and digital services arm into its next growth phase.

Sivanandan’s career trajectory spans leadership roles at some of India’s most influential digital platforms. Prior to his short stint at Jio Mobile Digital Services, he spent over two years leading Disney+ Hotstar until its merger with Reliance’s media business.

Additionally, he has held key positions at Google, where he focused on payments and the Next Billion Users initiative in India and the Asia-Pacific region, honing his expertise in scaling consumer internet businesses.

Tata Digital has been operating under a unique leadership model following the departure of Naveen Tahilyani as CEO in May 2025. Since then, a six-member executive council -reportedly including Hardeep Guru (CFO), Gaurav Hazrati (Chief Business Officer – Financial Services), Satyam Mehra (Chief Strategy Officer), Seshadri Narasimhan (Chief Business Officer), Abhimanyu Lal (Chief Marketing Officer), and Vinay Vaidya (CTO) – has overseen operations, reporting directly to Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran.

With Sivanandan at the helm, Tata Digital is expected to sharpen its focus on e-commerce, quick commerce, and digital services, competing more aggressively with major players such as Amazon, Flipkart, and Reliance.

Industry observers note that his track record in scaling digital businesses and navigating competitive markets could help Tata Digital strengthen its presence in India’s rapidly evolving online retail and services.

Chairman N. Chandrasekaran’s direct involvement in the company during the transition highlights Tata Digital’s strategic importance to the group’s broader digital commerce ambitions. With Sivanandan assuming leadership, Tata Digital appears poised to enter a new phase of innovation, customer-centric services, and accelerated growth.

As the September handover approaches, all eyes will be on how Sivanandan leverages his diverse experience to drive Tata Digital’s next chapter, balancing rapid expansion with the group’s legacy of trust and operational excellence.
