The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has officially announced the date for the 2025 Civil Services Preliminary Examination. The exam will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, across the state. The notification is now available on the commission’s website at opsc.gov.in, and candidates are advised to check regularly for further updates.
About the Exam
The Civil Services exam is one of the most important competitive exams in Odisha, as it recruits candidates for several high-ranking government posts, including the Odisha Administrative Service, Odisha Police Service, Odisha Revenue Service, Odisha Finance Service, and other state-level services.
This year, the recruitment drive will fill 265 vacancies in total.
Exam Pattern
The prelims will consist of two compulsory papers, each carrying 200 marks. Both papers will be in an objective-type, multiple-choice format.
A key feature of the exam is negative marking. For most questions, a wrong answer will lead to a deduction of one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned. In some cases, different marks will be awarded based on whether the chosen answer is the most appropriate or not, making accuracy very important.
Candidates who clear the prelims will qualify for the Mains examination, which includes written tests and an interview. The Mains carries a total of 2,000 marks, out of which 250 are for the Personality Test/Interview.
Eligibility
To apply, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a government-recognized university. The age limit has been set between 21 and 38 years as of January 1, 2024. This means applicants should have been born between January 2, 1986, and January 1, 2003.

Established on April 1, 1949, after separating from the Bihar-Odisha Joint Public Service Commission, OPSC has played a key role in selecting qualified officers for the state administration.
