Spanish fashion giant Mango has appointed Helena Helmersson, the former CEO of the H&M Group, as an independent director on its board. The move marks a key milestone in Mango’s long-term plan to strengthen its corporate governance and elevate its position as a global fashion leader.
Helmersson’s appointment is part of Mango’s ongoing 4E Strategic Plan, which focuses on enhancing executive leadership, embracing international standards, and accelerating global expansion. With over two decades of experience in the fashion industry, including four years as CEO of H&M, Helmersson brings deep expertise in sustainability, global operations, and production.
“I’m honored and excited to join Mango’s board,” said Helmersson. “The brand is clearly on an ambitious path, growing both in product range and global footprint while staying true to its sustainability goals. I look forward to supporting its continued success.”
Helena Helmersson is a widely respected figure in global fashion. During her time at H&M, she led major shifts in sustainability and digitalization, overseeing teams around the world. In addition to her new role at Mango, she currently chairs the board of Circulose, a company focused on circular fashion, and serves on the boards of On Holding AG and Quizrr.
Mango’s CEO and Chairman, Toni Ruiz, welcomed the news with enthusiasm: “Helena’s visionary leadership and global perspective will be invaluable as we pursue new growth opportunities. Her appointment strengthens our board and brings fresh insight to our strategy.”
Helmersson joins Mango during a period of significant leadership change. Recently, Eva Gallego was appointed to lead the women’s division, signaling a renewed focus on the company’s core category. This follows the departure of Elena Carasso, who had shaped Mango’s online and customer experience for more than 30 years. Marlies Hersbach succeeded her.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Andic, a longtime executive and the former head of Mango Man, has stepped away to focus on his family’s business ventures. Josep Estol, who joined the brand in 2022, now leads the men’s division.
Strengthening the Board
With the addition of Helmersson, Mango’s board includes a strong mix of executive and independent directors:
- Toni Ruiz – Chairman and CEO
- Jonathan Andic – Vice Chairman
- Daniel López and Margarita Salvans – Executive Directors
- Jordi Canals, Jorge Lucaya, Jordi Constans, Marc Puig, Manel Adell, and Helena Helmersson – Independent Directors
- Eugenia Jover – Secretary (non-director)
Founded in 1984 by Isak Andic, Mango has become one of the world’s leading fashion retailers, now present in more than 120 markets with a network of over 2,800 stores. In 2024, the company reported revenues of €3.34 billion, up 7.6% from the previous year.
As part of its 2024–2026 Strategic Plan, Mango aims to reach €4 billion in revenue and open 500 new stores by the end of 2026. The addition of a leader like Helena Helmersson to the board reflects the brand’s serious commitment to achieving these goals while staying grounded in innovation, sustainability, and excellence.
