Fendi has announced Francesca Leoni as its new Global Chief Communications Officer, marking a significant moment in the Italian luxury house’s leadership transformation. Leoni succeeds Cristiana Monfardini, who leaves after two decades shaping Fendi’s communication legacy.
The LVMH-owned maison confirmed the news, highlighting Leoni’s arrival as another major step in a broader restructuring that began earlier this year. In July, Fendi welcomed its new CEO, Ramon Ros, and shortly after, the house appointed Maria Grazia Chiuri as creative director, replacing Silvia Venturini Fendi, who is now honorary president. The addition of Leoni is seen as a strategic step toward strengthening Fendi’s global messaging under its refreshed leadership team.
Francesca Leoni brings more than 25 years of experience in luxury fashion, communication strategy, and global brand building. Known for her sharp creative vision and strong industry relationships, she has worked with some of fashion’s most respected houses.
Her most recent role was Chief Brand Officer at Michael Kors, where she spent seven years in New York. Before that, Leoni was Global Communications and Image Director at Valentino from 2010 to 2018, a period that placed her at the heart of the brand’s modern reinvention. She worked closely with then co-creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, a connection that may ease her transition into Fendi’s new creative era.
A Career Built Across Iconic Fashion Houses
Leoni’s earlier chapters include:
- Bulgari (2005–2010) – As Global Communications Director, she oversaw PR, events, and marketing across jewelry, fragrance, and skincare. She played a key role in Bulgari’s hospitality launch, guiding communications for its first hotels in Milan, Bali, and London. She also managed jewelry archives and helped organize major retrospective exhibitions in Rome and Paris.
- Hermès (2000–2005) – Leoni led public relations and cultural affairs in New York and Paris, deepening her experience in storytelling for heritage brands.
- Malo (1993–2000) – Her first fashion role in the U.S., where she served as PR Director and built a foundation in luxury communication.
A graduate of New York University with a degree in Art, Leoni is known for combining heritage-driven storytelling with modern communication strategies, a balance that aligns with Fendi’s identity as a Roman house with a contemporary global presence.
Leoni’s appointment signals a renewed focus on elevating Fendi’s global voice during a pivotal period of creative and strategic evolution. Her expertise in brand image, archival curation, and luxury communication, especially her ability to bridge heritage with innovation, is expected to play a crucial role in shaping Fendi’s next chapter.
With a new CEO, a celebrated creative director, and now an experienced communication leader in place, Fendi appears ready to embark on a fresh, dynamic era driven by strong storytelling, global visibility, and modern luxury expression.
