India’s renewable energy major, Suzlon, has set the stage for its next phase of expansion with a significant leadership reshuffle. The company on Tuesday announced the appointment of Ajay Kapur as Group Chief Executive Officer, while elevating J P Chalasani to its newly constituted Group Executive Council (GEC).

The restructuring is part of Suzlon’s “Suzlon 2.0” vision, a strategic shift to transform the company from just a wind turbine maker into a diversified renewable energy solutions provider.

Under the new setup, the Group Executive Council will guide Suzlon’s medium- and long-term plans. Alongside it, an Executive Management Council led by the Group CEO will focus on operational changes and sustainable growth.

Chalasani, who continues as a Key Managerial Personnel (KMP), will work closely with Chairman & Managing Director Vinod Tanti and Executive Vice Chairman Girish Tanti in shaping the company’s strategic initiatives. He will report directly to Vinod Tanti.

The company said this move shows careful succession planning and a commitment to creating long-term value, ensuring leadership remains steady and strategy stays clear.

Ajay Kapur will officially become Group CEO on February 24. He has more than 36 years of experience in infrastructure, cement, construction, power, and heavy metals. Before Suzlon, he was Managing Director at Ambuja Cements Limited and has led several major companies.

At Suzlon, Kapur will report to Vinod Tanti and will be responsible for driving scale, accelerating transformation, and preparing the organisation for its next growth cycle.

Suzlon is evolving as global energy markets change. With growing demand for clean energy and integrated solutions, the company plans to expand beyond wind into solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), new clean technologies, and varied business models.

The aim is to offer end-to-end renewable solutions rather than operate as a single-segment player.

Girish Tanti noted that Suzlon is at a “phenomenal juncture” as it embarks on this new chapter. The creation of the GEC and the appointment of Kapur, he said, are critical components of this transition toward unlocking greater value in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

As Suzlon positions itself for its 2.0 era, the leadership reset signals a company preparing not just to participate in India’s renewable energy growth story, but to scale alongside it.
