CBSE Reschedules Class 10, 12 Board Exams; Revised Dates Announced

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially postponed select Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations that were scheduled for March 3, 2026, citing administrative reasons. The board has issued a revised schedule and advised students to note the updated dates when planning their preparation.

What has changed?

As per the circular dated December 29, 2025, several Class 10 language and elective papers, along with one Class 12 subject, have been rescheduled.

  • Class 10 examinations for regional and foreign language subjects: Tibetan, Bhoti, Bhutia, Bodo, Tangkhul, Mizo, Kashmiri, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Bahasa Melayu will now be held on March 11, 2026.
  • Academic Electives (Group A2) for Class 10, including National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Elements of Book Keeping and Accountancy, have also been shifted to March 11.
  • The Class 12 Legal Studies examination, previously scheduled for March 3, will now take place on April 10, 2026.

All other examination dates remain unchanged.

Official confirmation from CBSE

In the notice addressed to principals of CBSE-affiliated schools, Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, clarified that the changes were unavoidable due to administrative considerations. He also confirmed that the revised dates will be reflected in students’ admit cards, and schools must update and circulate the amended date sheets without delay.

Why these subjects matter

The rescheduled Class 10 papers include a wide range of regional Indian languages, such as Bodo, Kashmiri, Mizo, and Tangkhul, to support linguistic and cultural diversity. The list also features popular foreign languages such as German, Japanese, Spanish, and Bahasa Melayu, which are increasingly chosen by students seeking global exposure.

Subjects like NCC and Elements of Bookkeeping and Accountancy are important academic electives that focus on discipline, civic responsibility, and foundational commerce education.

Exam timeline remains intact

CBSE board examinations for 2026 will still begin on February 17. On the first day:

  • Class 10 students will appear for Mathematics (Standard and Basic).
  • Class 12 students will write papers in Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship, Shorthand (English), and Shorthand (Hindi).

All exams will be conducted in a single shift from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.

What should I do now?

Students are advised to review the revised schedule, adjust their revision plans if affected, and regularly check official CBSE updates through their schools. Parents and teachers have also been asked to ensure smooth communication to avoid confusion during the final phase of preparation. Exams approaching, staying informed, and planning ahead will be key to navigating these changes confidently.
