Avant-Garde Designer Abraham Ortuño Joins Camper as Creative Director

Spanish footwear and fashion brand Camper has named Abraham Ortuño as its new creative director, signaling an important change in the company’s design leadership. Based in Mallorca, the brand confirmed that Ortuño will lead the creative vision for both Camper and its experimental line, Camperlab.

The Spanish designer takes over the role from Achilles Ion Gabriel, whose departure from the company was announced earlier this year. Gabriel’s final collection for the brand will be Spring/Summer 2027, while Ortuño will debut his first collection for Camper during Autumn/Winter 2027.

The company says Ortuño’s appointment marks “a new chapter” for Camper as it builds on its reputation for innovative design and global cultural impact. The brand also highlighted its commitment to celebrating Spanish talent and preserving its Mediterranean design roots.

The new creative direction will be revealed in early 2027, with the first collections launching worldwide in June 2027. This will mark an exciting new era for both Camper and Camperlab.

Camper CEO Miguel Fluxà commented that the designer represents a new generation of creative leadership.

“Abraham represents a new generation of creative leadership. His deep knowledge of footwear, along with strong cultural awareness and an international outlook, makes him the perfect person to lead Camper into its next phase.”

Originally from Alicante and currently based in Paris, Ortuño is best known as the founder of the avant-garde fashion label Abra, which he launched in 2019. His work is recognised for combining experimental design with subtle eccentricity, particularly within footwear and accessories.

Besides his own brand, Ortuño has worked with several top luxury fashion houses like Givenchy, Rabanne, Jacquemus, JW Anderson, and Loewe. His work in accessories and footwear has earned him wide recognition in the global fashion scene.

Talking about his new role, Ortuño called the appointment a deeply personal milestone.

“It is an incredible honour to take on the role of creative director at Camper and Camperlab. As a Spanish designer, I have always seen Camper as the pinnacle of our country’s design legacy.”

He added that his goal is to honor Camper’s heritage while bringing fresh creative energy, mixing craftsmanship, irony, and modern cultural influences.

Founded in 1975 by the Fluxà family in Mallorca, Camper has grown into a well-known global footwear brand. Today, it runs about 350 company-owned stores and sells through over 2,500 multi-brand retailers in around 50 countries.

According to its latest financial report, Camper made €225 million in revenue in 2023, showing its strong position in the global footwear market.

In recent years, the brand has worked to strengthen its premium image, particularly through Camperlab, its experimental design platform. This line debuted at Paris Men’s Fashion Week and has since expanded to include ready-to-wear collections and a refreshed brand look.

With Abraham Ortuño now leading creative direction, Camper seems ready to take its design philosophy further by blending Mediterranean heritage with bold, modern experimentation in footwear and fashion.
