Alejandro Estevon Angel is Best known for his role as Star Child in the Blockbuster Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista. His incomparable talent will soon be seen in the August release of Harold and The Purple Crayon with Zooey Deschanel and Zachary Levi. Other notable credits include American 11 with Sarah Shahi, The Baby Dro Show Presents: Extreme Obstacle Challenge for Kids as well as a lead role in the upcoming film The Pearls with Garret Dillahunt. Known to his fans as Baby Dro, this Atlanta native has done several National Commercials for brands such as Chevy, Kids Foot Locker, and Delta Airlines. When not working or dazzling the photographers on the red carpet, Alejandro can be found on YouTube and Twitch streaming Fortnite and Roblox, practicing Jiu Jitsu, or playing sports.
HI, WELCOME TO ABOUT INSIDER! THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO IS ALEJANDRO ESTEVON ANGEL IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
In my own words, Alejandro is a funny cool kid who likes to play video games. He is an actor, model and YouTuber. He is me.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE PLAYING THE HELICOPTER KID IN “HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON”? WHAT WAS THE MOST EXCITING PART OF THE ROLE?
My experience playing the helicopter kid in Harold and the Purple Crayon was very fun and awesome. What I liked the most was being picked up in the helicopter by a crane, it felt like I was really flying.
HOW DID YOU PREPARE FOR THE ROLE IN “HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON,” AND WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE WHILE FILMING?
I prepared by getting the audition as perfect as possible. I didn’t have a lot of lines in my audition, and I ended up improving a few extra lines on set that made it to the film.That was pretty cool. I didn’t have any challenges filming.
YOU’VE WORKED WITH SOME BIG NAMES IN HOLLYWOOD LIKE CHRIS PRATT AND DAVE BAUTISTA. HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE ON THE SET OF “GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3”?
My experience on the set of “Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3” was very cool and intense. It was amazing meeting all the lead cast members, but my favorite of all was Pam Klementieff who plays Mantis, she’s really nice. The sets were huge and had lots of detail. I am a big Marvel fan so I was just so excited to be there and watch the magic come to life. Even though some of my scenes got cut, I was happy to have been a part of it.
“HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON” IS BASED ON A BELOVED CHILDREN’S BOOK. HOW DID YOU FEEL BRINGING THIS CLASSIC STORY TO LIFE ON THE BIG SCREEN?
It felt good to be a part of something big like bringing a book to life. I never read the books, they’re before my time, but it was still a great experience.
YOU’RE ALSO ACTIVE ON YOUTUBE AND TWITCH. HOW DO YOU BALANCE YOUR TIME BETWEEN ACTING, STREAMING, AND YOUR OTHER INTERESTS LIKE JIU JITSU AND SPORTS?
I keep a tight schedule, you gotta work hard to make it look easy. The way I have worked around it is focusing on the most important task first. Acting comes first before anything, and it comes with deadlines that need to be met. YouTube and streaming are done on my downtime from acting. There’s usually quite a lot of downtime between auditions. I can’t play competitive sports because of my busy schedule, so I do drop in classes when I can.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT IN YOUR ACTING CAREER SO FAR, AND WHY?
The most memorable moment in my acting career to this day was walking into the Marvel studios to film “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3”. The sets were huge and out of this world, and also it was my first movie set.
CAN YOU SHARE ANY UPCOMING PROJECTS OR ROLES YOU’RE EXCITED ABOUT AFTER “HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON”?
I booked a lead role in a movie prior to the union strike that got postponed. I am still waiting for that one to pick back up. The movie is called “The Pearls” but I don’t know much about it yet.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR YOUNG ASPIRING ACTORS WHO WANT TO FOLLOW IN YOUR FOOTSTEPS?
My advice for young aspiring actors is to always make sure that every audition is better than your last. Keep training and getting better, keep working on your craft. The more you practice, the easier it will be for you.
WHAT’S SOMETHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU THAT MIGHT SURPRISE US?
Something that might surprise you about me is that I eat a lot. I may not look like it, but I’m always eating. On set, you can always catch me at craft services eating up all the snacks. I love to eat!
