IIT Bhilai, a prestigious institute renowned for its excellence in engineering education and research, has introduced various scholarships to support undergraduate and postgraduate students. The IIT Bhilai scholarships are designed to assist students from diverse backgrounds and ensure financial constraints do not hinder academic progress.
Scholarships for Undergraduate Students
Merit-cum-Means Scholarship – IIT Bhilai offers the Merit-cum-Means Scholarship to undergraduate students from the UR and OBC categories. This scholarship is available to up to 25% of eligible students who meet the financial criteria. Economically weaker students with a family income between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh annually can receive a two-thirds remission on their tuition fees. Additionally, they are eligible for reimbursement of one-third of their tuition fees each semester and a monthly pocket money allowance of Rs 1,000. For UR students, the parental income should be at most Rs 5 lakh; for OBC students, the limit is Rs 6 lakh. Maintaining a minimum CGPA of 6.0 is necessary to retain the scholarship.
Institute SC/ST Scholarship – Students belonging to the SC and ST categories are entitled to free mess services and boarding (to the extent collected), along with a pocket money allowance of Rs 250 per month, provided their parental income does not exceed Rs 4.5 lakh per annum. These benefits are subject to maintaining a CGPA of 6.0.
Institute Free Studentship Scholarship – This scholarship is awarded to 10% of undergraduate students whose family income is within certain limits. UR students must have an annual income below Rs 5 lakh, while OBC students must have an income of Rs 6 lakh or less. Eligible students receive a two-thirds remission on tuition fees and a reimbursement of one-third per semester, with the requirement of maintaining a CGPA of 6.0 to continue receiving the benefit.
Postgraduate Scholarships
Institute Fellowship for Postgraduate Students – IIT Bhilai also provides fellowship support for postgraduate students. Non-sponsored MTech students with a valid GATE score are eligible for this fellowship for up to 21 months. PhD students receiving an institute fellowship are funded for four years, possibly extending it for one additional year, based on departmental recommendations.
However, the fellowship is not provided during semesters when students are not residing on campus. In addition to their research and coursework, all fellowship recipients are required to contribute 8 hours per week to academic or administrative tasks.
A Focus on Research and Doctoral Programs
IIT Bhilai offers a robust platform for students interested in doctoral research, with facilities available in all departments and research centers. The institute is committed to fostering a research-driven environment and encourages students to explore advanced studies in various engineering disciplines.
With these scholarships, IIT Bhilai aims to support students financially and strives to maintain a culture of merit and excellence, ensuring that deserving students have access to high-quality education and research opportunities.
