A new £1,000 scholarship is providing UK university students with the opportunity to influence the workplaces of the future while gaining recognition for their innovative ideas.
AJ Products, a leading supplier of workplace furniture, has launched this initiative to enable students to propose creative solutions that improve employee wellbeing through improved physical work environments.
The competition invites students to submit original ideas in the form of a short essay or a video. Participants are encouraged to draw on personal experiences or academic studies to explain how their concept can improve mental or physical wellbeing at work and how it could affect the way employees interact with their workspace. Submissions may focus on products, initiatives, or changes in office or industrial workspace design.
Entries will be assessed based on several criteria: the potential of the project to enhance working environments and employee wellbeing, the level of innovation and practical benefits, clarity in explaining the background or personal experiences that inform the idea, and genuine creativity. Grammar and spelling will not be the primary focus.
This scholarship is open to any student enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course at a UK university during the 2025–2026 academic year. Applications will be accepted until December 31, 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
The scholarship is open to any eligible, full-time student enrolled at a university in the UK and is not limited to a specific subject of study. To apply, applicants must:
- Be aged 18 or over at the time of entry
- Be currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate-taught course at a UK university for the academic year 2025/2026.
- Submit an original entry (written, visual, or otherwise, as outlined).
- Agree to the terms and conditions of the competition.

How to apply:
To apply, students must submit a short essay (500 – 1000 words) or video (maximum 3 minutes) of an idea or project on the following subject:
Explain one way in which the workplace of the future could be adapted to improve employee wellbeing and happiness at work. It should focus on the way that employees interact with the physical work environment and how companies could apply your idea to improve mental and/or physical wellbeing. Tell us how this idea is inspired by your personal experience or field of study, or describe a problem you’ve observed or encountered and how your idea addresses it.
This could include a product, an initiative, a change to building design or any other relevant idea. It could be designed for an office environment or an industrial workspace (such as a factory, warehouse or workshop). If it is not immediately obvious, please detail where the idea would be applied.
The student must include the following information alongside their application:
