The Virgil Abloh Foundation (VAF) has appointed Dana Loatman as its first executive director. The foundation, created by Shannon Abloh and family, aims to support underrepresented youth in creative fields by breaking down barriers and providing opportunities.
Loatman, a Chicago-based leader, will be responsible for managing the foundation’s operations, strategic planning, and program development. Expressing her gratitude for the role, she said, “Virgil was a visionary who believed in opening doors and keeping them open for young creatives of color. I am honored to lead the foundation and continue his legacy.”
With over ten years of experience in nonprofit and social impact sectors, Loatman previously worked at the Obama Foundation as chief of staff of external affairs. In this role, she managed community engagement, marketing, and corporate partnerships, securing over $100 million in funding from major brands like Apple, Nike, and Google. She has also held leadership roles at World Vision International, Yunus & Youth, and the Boston Foundation.
Shannon Abloh, the foundation’s founder and board president, expressed confidence in Loatman’s ability to carry forward Virgil’s vision. “Finding the right person to lead the foundation was very important to me. Dana’s creativity, character, and innovative approach to philanthropy make her the perfect choice. Virgil would be proud.”
Loatman will work alongside the foundation’s board of directors, which includes professionals from fashion, philanthropy, and creative industries. Members include Shannon Abloh, Marc Eckō (Complex Ntwrk), Howard Feller (H Feller Enterprises), Naecia Dixon (Nike), Monica Haslip (Little Black Pearl), and Corey Smith (LVMH North America).
With Loatman at the helm, the Virgil Abloh Foundation is set to make a lasting impact by creating more opportunities for young creatives and honoring the legacy of Virgil Abloh.
