UP Scholarship Applications Open for 2025–26 to Support Lakhs of Students

The Uttar Pradesh government has opened online applications for the UP Scholarship scheme for the 2025–26 academic year. This move will help many students across the state by providing financial support, especially for those from less privileged backgrounds.

The scholarship is managed by the Social Welfare, Minority Welfare, and Backward Classes Welfare Departments. It is open to students from SC, ST, OBC, minority communities, and other eligible groups.

Students at both pre-metric and post-metric levels can apply on the official UP Scholarship portal. The scheme covers many courses, such as school education, diplomas, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, and state-recognized professional courses.

Simple Online Process with Direct Bank Transfer

New and returning applicants must register online, provide their personal and academic details, and upload the required documents before the deadline. After submission, schools will verify the applications, which are then reviewed at the district and state levels.

Scholarship funds are sent straight to students’ bank accounts using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Officials recommend that students double-check their Aadhaar, bank details, and academic records to prevent delays or rejection.

Authorities advise students to apply early, as technical problems often occur near the deadline.

UP Government Plans New NTSE-Style Scholarship

In addition to the current UP Scholarship scheme, the state government is planning a new merit-based scholarship program, inspired by the old National Talent Search Examination (NTSE).

Under the proposed initiative, a state-level competitive exam will be conducted to identify talented students from Classes 10 to 12. The new plan would hold a state-level exam to find talented students in Classes 10 to 12. Those chosen would receive a yearly scholarship of ₹12,000 to help with their studies, Research and Training (SCERT). The plan has already been submitted for approval to higher authorities.

Officials say the new scheme aims to reward academic achievement and give financial help to deserving students, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.

Existing Merit Schemes

Currently, the Bureau of Psychology also serves as the nodal agency for the National Income and Merit-Based Scholarship Examination (NIMBSE). Through this scheme, over 15,000 Class 8 students studying in government and aided schools receive ₹1,000 per month, or ₹12,000 annually, from Class 9 to Class 12.

This ongoing support helps students stay in school and do better in their studies.

A Step Towards Inclusive Education

The UP government says it is committed to lowering dropout rates and making education accessible to everyone. By offering more scholarships and planning new merit-based programs, the state hopes to support students from all backgrounds.

Since the national NTSE program has been suspended since 2021 and is still under review, Uttar Pradesh’s new state-level plan could help talented students who need financial support.
