Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still having extraordinary success at the global box office, reaching a total of $1.67 billion worldwide in just 12 days and becoming the second-fastest film ever to reach $1 billion in international earnings.
The most recent figures show $1.01 billion coming from international markets and an additional $655 million from North America, which means that the latest Spider-Man movie is now firmly established as one of the biggest films in cinema history.
It is already the most successful film of this year and is now in the position of being the 12th highest-grossing movie of all time; its performance abroad is especially noteworthy since only Avengers: Endgame had reached the $1 billion figure in international earnings more quickly.
The strong response comes after a four-year wait for Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker. Audiences last saw Holland’s Spider-Man on the big screen in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which became a massive global success and left fans eagerly waiting for the character’s next solo adventure.
Strong Second Weekend
The film showed little sign of slowing down during its second weekend. Spider-Man: Brand New Day added approximately $236 million internationally and $145 million in North America, numbers that would represent an impressive opening weekend for many major releases.
China continues to be the film’s biggest international market, contributing $186.7 million so far, including $29.1 million during the latest weekend. The United Kingdom follows with $87.4 million, while Mexico has contributed $65.8 million.
With limited competition and strong repeat viewing from Spider-Man fans, the film is expected to remain a major box-office force through the coming weeks.
Could Spider-Man hit $2 billion?
The biggest question now is how far Brand New Day can ultimately go.
The film is already heading toward the $2 billion worldwide mark, a level reached by only a small group of films in box-office history. Among those titles are Avatar, Avengers: Endgame and Titanic.
Its rapid pace has made the final box-office total difficult to predict, particularly as the movie continues to benefit from strong international audiences and repeat viewings.
At the same time, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is still enjoying its successful showing in cinemas. The film has now reached $1.1 billion in total box office receipts, becoming Nolan’s most profitable film so far. It has now overtaken The Dark Knight Rises, which previously held Nolan’s record.
The Odyssey is also the most successful film ever released in IMAX, having earned about $289 million from the format.
In other places, the animated film PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie opened internationally by earning about $23 million in 30 markets. It is set to move into North America and further international areas during the coming weekend.
At the moment, though, the biggest story at the box office is still Peter Parker. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has already made $1.67 billion worldwide in just 12 days, seems to have plenty more success still ahead of it.
