Ralph Lauren Corporation has announced an important leadership shift, with Bob Ranftl stepping into the role of chief operating officer (COO) effective March 30. The transition is part of the company’s carefully planned multi-year succession strategy. Ranftl, a seasoned executive who has been with the company since 2015, will succeed Jane Nielsen in this critical position.
Currently serving as Ralph Lauren’s regional CEO for North America, Ranftl has played an important role in driving growth and innovation across the region. Ranftl will oversee critical functions such as IT, logistics, real estate, store design, and licensing in his new role. He has previously overseen strategic expansions in key cities, spearheaded the brand’s entry into Canada’s direct-to-consumer market, and redefined wholesale strategies to rejuvenate North American operations.
“Bob’s extensive global experience with Ralph Lauren, combined with his operational expertise and deep passion for the brand, uniquely positions him for this role,” said Patrice Louvet, president and CEO of Ralph Lauren Corporation. “His leadership has been instrumental in pivoting North America to growth, and I am confident he will continue to drive operational excellence as our new COO.”
Mercedes Abramo will join Ralph Lauren on March 1 as the regional CEO for North America. Abramo brings a wealth of experience from her time at Cartier S.A., where she most recently served as deputy chief commercial officer. Her impressive tenure includes roles as vice president of retail and president and CEO of Cartier North America, making her well-equipped to lead Ralph Lauren’s North American operations into its next growth phase.
“As we progress on our path toward long-term, sustainable growth in North America, Mercedes’s proven expertise in luxury retail, leadership, and market insights make her a natural fit for this role,” added Louvet.
Abramo expressed her enthusiasm for joining Ralph Lauren in a LinkedIn post, stating, “Ralph Lauren defines the epitome of American luxury, creating lifelong emotional connections with consumers by staying true to Ralph’s inspiring, timeless vision and purpose. I’m so proud to soon join this incredible team to help shape the bright future of the North American region, which is dynamic, diverse, and full of opportunities ahead.”
Ranftl and Abramo will both report directly to Louvet as part of Ralph Lauren’s enterprise leadership team. Together, they will focus on advancing the brand’s vision and strategic objectives, reinforcing Ralph Lauren’s position as a global leader in luxury and lifestyle.
With these leadership changes, Ralph Lauren continues to position itself for sustainable growth, blending heritage with innovation to meet the evolving demands of its global consumer base.
