The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially announced the examination dates for NEET PG 2026 and NEET MDS 2026, bringing clarity for thousands of medical graduates preparing for postgraduate admissions this year.
According to the notification, NEET MDS 2026 will be held on May 2, 2026 (Saturday), while NEET PG 2026 will be held on August 30, 2026 (Sunday). Candidates aspiring for postgraduate medical and dental courses can now plan their preparation timelines accordingly.
NEET PG & NEET MDS 2026 Important Dates
For NEET MDS 2026, the cut-off date for completion of internship is May 31, 2026. Only those candidates who complete their mandatory internship by this date will be eligible to appear for the exam.
For NEET PG 2026, the internship completion cut-off date has been fixed as September 30, 2026. Candidates must ensure they meet this requirement to be considered eligible.
Exam Pattern
NEET MDS 2026 will be a three-hour examination consisting of 240 multiple-choice questions, each with four answer options. The question paper will be in English. There will be negative marking: 25% marks will be deducted for incorrect answers, while unanswered questions will not attract any penalty.
NEET PG 2026 will be conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode. The exam will feature 200 multiple-choice questions, each carrying 4 marks. The exam will last 3 hours and 30 minutes. Candidates will receive +4 marks for each correct answer and -1 mark for each incorrect response.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for NEET PG 2026, candidates must hold an MBBS degree from a recognised medical institution, have completed their internship, and possess a permanent or provisional registration certificate issued by the Medical Council of India or relevant authority.
For NEET MDS 2026, candidates must have completed a BDS degree or equivalent from a recognised institution and finished a 12-month internship by May 31, 2026.
