LG Group has announced a major leadership overhaul across its key subsidiaries to boost long-term growth, strengthen strategic businesses, and accelerate innovation. The reshuffle includes appointing Ryu Jae-chul as the new CEO of LG Electronics, one of the group’s most important verticals.
The update, reported by Maeil Business News Korea’s English platform Pulse, highlights that promotions focused on areas essential to LG’s future competitiveness, while leadership changes targeted units needing structural transformation.
Ryu Jae-chul, who previously led LG’s Home Appliance Solution (HS) Company, has been promoted to CEO after successfully pushing the division to global No. 1 status in home appliances.
Ryu joined GoldStar’s appliance research lab in 1989 and has spent nearly half his career in research and development. Known as a hands-on leader with deep industry expertise, he has led the home appliance division since 2021, achieving an average annual revenue growth of 7%. His leadership cemented LG’s position as the world’s top home appliance brand under a single label.
He replaces the outgoing leadership as part of LG’s efforts to align with emerging global trends and growth opportunities.
With Ryu moving to the top post, Baek Seung-tae, former head of the Kitchen Solution division, will become the new head of the HS business unit.
In other major appointments:
- Eun Seok-hyun, head of the Vehicle Solution (VS) Company, has been promoted to president. He is credited with boosting infotainment sales and improving profitability despite global challenges such as US tariffs and slowing EV demand.
- Lee Jae-sung, head of the Eco Solution (ES) Company and a veteran in HVAC technologies, has also been promoted to president after successfully expanding the cooling and power solutions portfolio.
Their elevations signal LG’s strong focus on B2B pillars such as vehicle components and HVAC systems, sectors expected to drive the next phase of corporate growth.
Organizational Changes to Boost Global Competitiveness
LG Electronics also announced several structural changes:
- The HS Company will set up a new HS B2B Overseas Sales Division and launch an HS Robotics Lab to strengthen built-in and robotics initiatives.
- The Media Entertainment Solution (MS) Company will merge its TV and IT businesses into a single Display Business, supported by a new Display Product Development Group.
- The ES Company will add dedicated teams for ventilation, refrigeration, and industrial applications, and create new M&A and Overseas Sales divisions for stronger global operations.
The group promoted 34 executives at LG Electronics this year, including two presidents, two executive vice presidents, nine senior vice presidents, and 21 vice presidents. This is slightly lower than last year’s 46 promotions.
Updates Across Other LG Subsidiaries
The reshuffle also extended to other LG companies:
- LG Innotek: CEO Moon Hyuk-soo has been promoted to president after driving growth in semiconductor components and robotics parts.
- LG Chem: Kim Dong-chun, head of Advanced Materials, has been named CEO and president. Kim has played a significant role in expanding LG’s semiconductor and electronics materials business.
- LG Uplus: Three senior leaders—Kwon Yong-hyun, Yang Hyo-seok, and Yeo Myung-hee—have been promoted to executive vice presidents, with a focus on accelerating AI-led initiatives such as AI contact centers and AI data centers.
- LG Corp (Holding Company): Jang Geon, Jang Seung-se, and Jung Jung-wook have been elevated to executive vice presidents overseeing legal, chemical, and public relations roles.
- LG Energy Solution: One senior executive director and six new managing directors were promoted as part of the group-wide growth push.
Industry analysts say the reshuffle reflects LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo’s intent to strengthen future-focused businesses, improve global competitiveness, and accelerate strategic restructuring where needed. With new leadership across major divisions, LG appears set to advance in emerging sectors such as robotics, advanced materials, EV components, HVAC systems, and AI-driven services.
