Iran has announced sanctions on several American and British individuals and entities for their support of Israel during its conflict with the Palestinian militant group Hamas. The punitive measures, revealed by Iran’s Foreign Ministry, target seven Americans, including General Bryan P. Fenton and Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, along with British officials such as Secretary of State for Defence Grant Shapps and commander of the British army strategic command James Hockenhull.
Additionally, entities such as Lockheed Martin and Chevron from the US, and Elbit Systems, Parker Meggitt, and Rafael UK from Britain, have been subjected to penalties.
These sanctions involve blocking accounts and transactions in the Iranian financial and banking systems, freezing assets within Iran’s jurisdiction, and restricting visa issuance and entry to Iranian territory.
The impact of these measures on the affected individuals and entities and their assets or dealings with Iran remains uncertain.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas escalated following an attack by Palestinian militants on Israel on October 7, resulting in significant casualties. While Iran supports Hamas, it has denied direct involvement in the attack.
Israel’s retaliatory offensive against Hamas has led to significant casualties in Gaza, with the territory’s health ministry reporting a high number of civilian deaths, including women and children.
