Interview: Niccolò Dallerba Talks Acting in Hollywood

Seasoned Italian actor Niccolò Dallerba chatted to About Insider on transitioning from Florence in Italy to the bright lights of Hollywood.

HELLO NICCOLÒ DALLERBA, WELCOME TO ABOUT INSIDER! THANK YOU FOR TAKING TIME TO SPEAK WITH US TODAY. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WONDERFUL ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE. WHO INSPIRED YOU TO BE AN ACTOR?
I know many actors become an actor because they watch a movie or see a performance from one of the greats, but for me, there wasn’t an exact moment that made me realize acting was my path, but I do remember that from a young age, I always made-up voices or mimicked characters in movies.
I became obsessed with movies of all genres and specific classics like ‘Star Wars’, ‘E.T.’, ‘Indiana Jones’ or ‘Some Like It Hot’ so I was a real cinephile and still am. When I was around 16/17 I started taking acting classes, and from there the rest, as they say, is history!

WHAT KIND OF PROJECTS ARE YOU DRAWN TO?
I love to work in theatre productions and on screen, so for me I really love good pieces with good writing that make me feel something the first time I read it, even with a basic and simple story it has to feel special and fresh full of details. So, it really depends, I have of course my favorite genres but like I said you’ll never know when a good story comes into your hands, and you need to make it live for the audience.

WHAT IS YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS WHEN PREPARING FOR A MOVIE?
My creative process when preparing for a movie is very exciting for me and I really love to explore and study the character or the story becauseit can be something that I didn’t even know would exist or maybe that I’ve heard about, but I wasn’t well informed.
For me, it is important I understand the script with all the story and the background. It goes beyond knowing the lines – I need to know how to react to my fellow actors and everything about the scene in order to deliver the best performance and have fun in the scene.

WE READ THAT YOU STAR IN THE NEW HBO MAX TV SHOW ‘MORE’ – TELL US ABOUT THAT!
Recently I filmed a TV pilot called ‘More’ for Warner Brothers and HBO Max. The show follows the Lorenz family, a tight-knit clan of seemingly flawless Latinas led by mom/mastermind Leona. The Lorenz’s are the Vanderbilts or the Astors of the Instagram era. Drawing some parallels to the Kardashians and their “momager” Kris Jenner, the Lorenz’s pulled their way up from debt and obscurity to reality TV stardom and forged a billion-dollar mega-conglomerate not from oil or steel but from something more elusive and modern: influence.
The project is directed by Silver Tree, and I star alongside Gore Abrams, Christian Serratos and Ana Ortiz.

WHAT CHARACTER DO YOU PLAY AND ARE YOU ANYTHING LIKE HIM?
In this show I play Kay, a character that is not really close to my personality, but we have very similar characteristics, that’s why some people will love him and hate him at the same time. Kay is a nice young fancy man that is really supportive of everyone, and they called him ‘’Mr. Perfect’’, but he is also very persistent to achieve his goals, but he struggles with his personality. I really believe that is one of the closest characters to me that I have played, more than everyone will expect. It was great fun to be in this project and we have built a real community. I feel very proud and hope everyone is going to watch it soon.

WHICH ACTORS/DIRECTORS WOULD YOU LIKE TO COLLABORATE WITH IN FUTURE?
There isn’t a particular actor or director out there that I dream to work with, maybe Clint Eastwood yes, but I enjoy working with everyone in this business, the independentfilmmakers or Hollywood studios that give me the opportunity to step forward, share my passion for cinema and create something special.

IF YOU HAD ONE MESSAGE TO GIVE TO YOUR FANS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I would say to my fans to do something that makes you happy about it, as well as do not listen to all the critics that you receive but go for it, with all yourself.

ARE YOU ACTIVE ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
Yes – I am mostly on Instagram @niccodallerba!
