‘I can also ask about your time in jail’, says Minister Smriti Irani to anchor Sudhir Chaudhary

It seems a bit tough for a journalist to ask about the increase in the prices of tomatoes, as the chances are they can be asked in return about their time in jail. Recently, in a live debate on Aaj Tak, anchor Sudhir Chaudhary asked central minister Smriti Irani whether rocketing tomato prices were discussed in their home or not.

However, Smriti Irani, who holds the Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs portfolios, loses her cool while attending an Aaj Tak G20 summit on live television. “Even I can ask you what happened when you were in jail,” says the minister to the Aaj Tak anchor.

The anchor asked the minister that “Was there a discussion in your home when tomatoes were selling at ₹250-300 per kgs?” The enraged minister lost her cool when she replied to the anchor and went personal to him.

Union Minister Smriti Irani was referring to an incident from 2012 when Sudhir Chaudhary, along with Zee Business editor Samir Ahluwalia, were sent to 14-day judicial custody on the charges of extracting money from industrialist Naveen Jindal.

“That’s fine, but I want to let you know that if you’re making personal attacks then be ready for it yourself,” the anchor replied to the Union Minister, without losing his calm to her attack on him.
