Spreading the word to your locals and wider community about your new small business is no easy feat. There are plenty of small businesses that get started through the year and half of them don’t even get noticed, let alone get successful.

Every business owner needs to carefully consider how they reach their customers, but also how they are perceived in public. Whether they do this through traditional advertising methods in the form of billboards or local newspapers, or they do it with a digital marketing campaign, you have to consider some of the fun ways that you can get your brand notice that go beyond the norm.

For example, leaning into technology with a QR code is one of the easiest ways that you can slap your business information everywhere around town in the form of stickers. You don’t see many people doing that though, which is unfortunate because it does work very well. With that in mind, we’ve put together some creative ways to get your business notice so that you can make an impact.

  1. Make your content immersive. One of the best ways to get your marketing message out there is to get customers to engage with your brand in person. Having an immersive experience with a brand is a great way to convince people that the brand knows what it’s doing. For instance, a food or beverage company could host a cooking class. New technologies can make it possible for people to experience games in a whole new way with VR headsets. Footwear brands like Merrell created immersive campaigns called Trailscapes, in which customers could take a virtual hike wearing their hiking shoes. It’s things like this that allow you to be seen as a business that thinks outside the box.
  2. Make sure that you’re active online. Not just on your website, but online business platforms such as Yelp aren’t just static websites that people come and look things up. You can be active there answering quotes, consultations, or other messages. The businesses that respond to these messages and requests get three times more messages and requests in a 24 hour period. If you don’t have a Yelp business page and you don’t remain active on the site, you’re going to slow down and that’s the last thing that you want for your business.
  3. Establish yourself as an expert. Becoming a thought leader takes time, but if you think that it’s in the domain of CEOs or entrepreneurs, then you’re already going to fail. The reason you started your brand and your business is because you know what you’re doing. Whether you’ve started out as a landscaper, a graphic designer, or a Baker, you already know more than most. Starting a podcast or a YouTube channel or even posting high quality content across business sites like LinkedIn can help you to get your business noticed and get your message across.
  4. Go viral on social media. You can pick from a litter of influencers to help your business brand to go viral. Whether it’s creating a new Tik Tok dance to a new Tik Tok song or getting your business brand out there by asking influencers to advocate for you, you need to discuss this with your social media marketing team. If you don’t have one, it’s time to get one. It’s the dream of many business owners to go viral because if your products can get out there into the world and people want to order it, you’re going to see those orders flooding in.
  5. Consider guerrilla marketing. Nope, we’re not talking about the monkey, but you want to make sure that guerrilla marketing is on your list. It’s a good way to surprise or intrigue consumers in unexpected ways, in the form of flash mobs or in public places where you could have a skit put on. Guerrilla marketing can be risky because unexpected campaigns can catch potential customers off guard. But if you do it right and you do your research, then guerrilla marketing can really make an outsized impression and help to put your business on the local maps.

  1. Get yourself seen in the media. Send out press releases whenever your business does anything newsworthy. There are plenty of ways to help you to write a press release that gets your business name out there and as long as you are putting it in the right places, you will get noticed. Consider breaking a world record in your business, like baking the world’s largest pizza at your pizza deli. Consider doing something that’s outside the box for your industry and stand out among customers. If you’re a health insurance company, for example, what about forgiving historic debt over 10 years old? Something like that makes headlines for a good reason, and that’s exactly what you want to be doing.
  2. Get your emails going. A fun way to get your brand noticed is to start up an email newsletter. People think that email is dead, but unlike most other content areas, e-mail is the one that still continues. e-mail marketing teams can attentively review content on mobile phones for strategizing and optimizing your campaigns to ensure that they are seen. Getting featured in the media is a way to get your business noticed, as we said earlier. But starting your own newsletter gives you so much more control than you think. It allows you to nurture leads even during the offseason. And if people don’t want to be a part of the e-mail list, they can just take themselves off of it.
  3. Run a micro influencer campaign. Influencer campaigns like influencer marketing are very common these days. But helping out micro influencers in your industry can really help to give them a step up, which helps to give you a step up. You’re working two sides of the same coin, but you’re just doing it in different arenas. So if you want your brand to get noticed, team up with a content creator on Tiktok or Instagram. You can even use a company hashtag on Facebook and start getting people posting for you.
