Exclusive Interview with Marie-Sophie Kindle

Hailing from Liechtenstein, a small European country between Austria and Switzerland, Marie-Sophie Kindle is a passionate and determined young actress now living in Los Angeles. So far, she has been in multiple films, TV pilots, and met amazing industry people giving her the opportunity to dive deeper into the world of film.

About Insider sat down with Marie-Sophie Kindle to discuss ‘The Bridge’ and life in Los Angeles.

WELCOME TO ABOUT INSIDER! WE ARE THILLED TO TALK WITH YOU TODAY. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE PROJECT THE BRIDGE?
Hi! Yes, the film follows a mother, calm and free spirited, and a daughter, worried, organized and just trying her best at life. They have to face the reality of generational differences, especially in the realm of success and accomplishments. Will they eventually see eye to eye? I play the lead role of the Daughter.

HOW DO YOU COMPARE TO THAT OF OUR CHARACTER?
I found many similarities to my character in “The Bridge”. She is hard-working, ambitious, organized and seems like she has everything together. However, she also has a side to her where she is vulnerable, doesn’t know what to do, is overwhelmed, wants someone to guide her but also does not like people telling her what to do. She is beautifully complicated in her most vulnerable self and tries to navigate her way through life with the difficulties of being perfectly imperfect.

DID YOU HAVE TO DO ANYTHNG SPECIAL TO PREPRE YOURSELF FOR THE ROLE?
It was an exciting journey to try to fully understand my character and why she is the way she is. The most attention I paid to her back story since she has A LOT going on in the now but the way she reacts to scenarios has all to do with the way she grew up and has handled conflict in her earlier ages. So, I did a lot of work in regard to her life, her personality and character traits but also taken into perspective what relationship my character has with her mom since the film revolves heavily around their relationship.

CAN YOU SHARE ANY FUN FACTS FROM FILMING?
Omg, yes of course. The set experience was super fun, with the majority on set being internationals, which was amazing and super interesting to find out about their cultural backgrounds and their stories.

Also, there was one specific scene I was in where food was involved, and the producers gave us the freedom to order whatever food we wanted. Honestly, best cheat day I have ever had – it was a scene we didn’t have to reshoot, so it was okay to have real food, otherwise…

WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE IT! WHAT IS YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS WHEN PREPARING FOR A MOVIE?
A lot of homework: I love reading the script over and over again to find more about my character, creating my characters whole backstory and just letting my imagination run wild based on what I read in the script. There are a lot of questions I have to answer for myself in regard to my character, sometimes I evenlet myself live a day in the life as my character to see how she would respond to certain scenarios or questions, etc.

On the day of shooting, I let all of that go and let my homework that I did prior guide me through the scenes. Since I do a lot of homework solely based on what I can come up with in my mind, I let that go on the day of shooting so that my body can take over, my intuition can lead me through the scene – and usually in those moments you discover something so real for the character that your mind wouldn’t have been able to come up with. Those are the moments I strive for, those REAL moments where you are just being, the character and you become one – in those moments you can find the magic.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD FILMING ENVIRONMENT FOR YOU?
Kindness, no judgment, having fun but still being professional (having your lines memorized and being ready but still being able to crack a joke with a castmate before the scene starts/while the crew is setting up), and also another very important one: a director that knows how to communicate what he wants to the actor.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IN LOS ANGELES?
I love exploring new things, so any new café, restaurant or activity that pops up in LA, I am more than ready to try it out. LA is full of interesting, creative individuals who I am excited to meet and connect with. I also enjoy a good hike, or a stroll at the beach. A good balance of nature and people.

ARE THERE ANY CREATURE COMFORTS YOU MISS FROM BACK HOME?
Drinking water straight from the tap and eating food without having to read the labels. But besides that, I’m doing more than okay in LA.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO ADD?
I’d like to add that my journey as an actress has been filled with invaluable experiences and opportunities that have shaped me both professionally and personally. Each role I’ve taken on, including my recent work on ‘Broken English,’ has been a steppingstone towards my growth in this industry.

I am deeply passionate about storytelling and dedicated to bringing authenticity to each character I portray. I am excited about the future and eager to continue collaborating with talented individuals who share my love for the craft. Thank you for your interest in my journey, and I look forward to sharing more of my work with you.
