Alix Earle brought a touch of vintage fashion to late-night television when she appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in New York. For the September 9 appearance, the social media star reached into the Jean Paul Gaultier archives for a dramatic red and black dress that combined classic tailoring with a distinctly daring silhouette.
Earle’s dress featured a striking combination of textures and colors. The upper section came in a rich crimson shade, designed in a halter style with soft draping and a deep V-shaped neckline. The neckline extended toward the empire waist, creating a long, elegant line through the front of the dress.
The fitted black sleeves framed the red halter section, creating a strong contrast between the two parts of the design. From the back, the red fabric wrapped around Earle’s neck before forming a large bow, with its long tails falling down her upper back.
The lower half of the dress took a more streamlined approach. Made from fitted black fabric, it followed the body’s shape before ending around the knee in a classic pencil-skirt silhouette. The combination gave the vintage piece a balance of drama and structure without overwhelming the overall look.
Earle kept her footwear simple, choosing black pointed-toe pumps that complemented the lower portion of the dress and lengthened the silhouette.
Her jewelry was similarly understated. She wore pear-shaped lab-grown diamond stud earrings, adding a touch of sparkle while letting the unusual construction of the Gaultier dress remain the outfit’s centrepiece.
For her hair, Earle chose a high, voluminous ponytail. A few loose strands were left around her face, giving the polished hairstyle a slightly relaxed finish.
Her makeup followed a warm, defined beauty look, with winged eyeliner, sculpted brows, a sun-kissed complexion and a matte nude-pink lip. The neutral makeup worked well with the dress’s bold red-and-black colour combination.
Earle later shared moments from the appearance on Instagram, giving her followers another look at the vintage ensemble and her time on the show.
The choice of a Jean Paul Gaultier archival piece made the appearance particularly memorable. Rather than relying on a conventional late-night television look, Earle chose a design with strong vintage character, distinctive details, and plenty of personality.
