LVMH, the world’s biggest luxury group, has chosen Jean-Christophe Babin to lead its watches business. Babin, who currently runs LVMH’s famous jewelry brand Bulgari, will take over from Frédéric Arnault starting April 1.
Founded in 1987 through the merger of Moët Hennessy and Louis Vuitton, LVMH has redefined the luxury industry under the visionary leadership of Bernard Arnault, who took the helm in 1989. With a mission to establish LVMH as the global leader in luxury, the Group has built an unparalleled portfolio of 75 iconic Maisons across wines & spirits, fashion, fragrances, watches, jewelry, and hospitality.
Jean-Christophe Babin, the CEO of Bulgari, has announced via Instagram that he will take on an additional leadership role as the CEO of LVMH’s Watches Division.
In his post, Babin expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, calling it an honor to oversee these iconic watch brands while continuing his leadership at Bulgari. He also acknowledged the contributions of Frédéric Arnault, who previously led the division, praising his impact on brand desirability, innovation, and strategic growth.
“Hublot, TAG Heuer, and Zenith are three Swiss legends any watch lover and collector dreams to possess one day, especially after Frédéric Arnault’s remarkable impact on the division—from brand desirability and innovations to industrial synergies and retail expansion,” Babin wrote.
He also thanked Arnault for recommending him as his successor and wished him success in his new role at Loro Piana.
This leadership shift is crucial for LVMH’s watch business, as the luxury market faces economic challenges and evolving consumer trends. Babin’s dual role signals a strategic approach to strengthening LVMH’s position in both the jewelry and watch industries.
Why This Change Matters
Experienced Leader: Babin has spent 12 years as Bulgari’s CEO and previously led watch brand Tag Heuer for another 12 years.
Family Shifts: This is part of bigger changes at LVMH, where Bernard Arnault’s children are taking on more leadership roles. Frédéric Arnault, who previously ran the watches division, will now lead Italian luxury brand Loro Piana.
Tough Market: The watch business has slowed down as customers spend less on luxury items due to high prices. Sales dropped 2% last year.
What’s Next?
Babin will keep his job as Bulgari CEO while also managing LVMH’s watches division. His experience could help the company through this challenging time for luxury watches.
