Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) has announced a leadership transition, appointing Takashi Nakajima as its new President and CEO, effective April 1, 2025. Nakajima will succeed Takuya Tsumura, who will return to Honda’s headquarters in Japan after completing a three-year tenure in India.
With over 30 years of experience at Honda Motor Co., Tsumura has held leadership positions across Japan, China, Spain, and other international markets. Under his leadership, HCIL strengthened its premium brand positioning and witnessed remarkable growth.
Some of the key milestones during Tsumura’s tenure include:
- The launch of India’s first mainstream hybrid vehicle, the Honda City e:HEV.
- Introduction of the global SUV Elevate and the third-generation Honda Amaze.
- Laying the groundwork for Honda’s first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) in India.
- Expansion of exports, including the Made-in-India Elevate being introduced to the Japanese market.
- Spearheaded marketing innovations and enhanced customer experience through sales and service initiatives.
Takashi Nakajima brings extensive leadership experience, having served as President of Honda Motor Russia since 2021. In his recent role, he led Product Planning, Marketing, and Corporate Communication for Honda’s automobile division in Japan.
His appointment is expected to usher in a new phase of innovation and growth for HCIL, further building upon the strong foundation set by Tsumura. With India emerging as a key market for Honda’s global strategy, Nakajima’s expertise will likely drive new product developments, market expansion, and enhanced customer engagement.
