Sunrise Airways has taken a big step forward by appointing Gary Stone, a seasoned aviation professional, as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The airline, known for connecting Caribbean islands, is now set to enter a new chapter of growth and regional expansion.
Gary Stone brings over 30 years of experience in the global airline industry to the role. He most recently served as Vice President and Regional General Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean at Sabre Corporation, where he handled operations with over $110 million in revenue.
His long aviation career started with American Airlines in 1988 and includes leadership roles at Radixx International and various companies across the Americas.
Alongside this major appointment, Sunrise Airways also announced a new leadership structure:
- Philippe Bayard, the airline’s founder, will now serve as Chairman. He will guide Sunrise’s long-term vision and focus on strengthening Caribbean partnerships and sustainable growth.
- Jean-Sébastien Bayard, who has been with the company for eight years, has been named Deputy CEO. With strong business and financial skills, he will support day-to-day operations and innovation.
Philippe Bayard shared his confidence in the new team, saying, “Gary’s experience and Jean-Sébastien’s dedication will help drive Sunrise Airways forward as a key player in Caribbean travel.”
Originally from Connecticut and raised in Puerto Rico, Gary Stone has a strong connection to the Caribbean. He holds a degree in Computer Science from St. Thomas University and is passionate about improving travel across the region.
Sunrise Airways currently operates under three air licenses in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Eastern Caribbean. It serves over 24 destinations across the Caribbean, Central America, and the U.S., including recent expansion into the Eastern Caribbean in 2024.
With these new leadership changes, Sunrise Airways is focused on building a united and efficient “One Caribbean” travel experience, making air travel smoother and more connected across the region.
