The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has announced that a special Muhurat Trading session will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, to mark the festival of Diwali, one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar.

According to an official circular (Ref. No. NSE/CMTR/70319) issued on September 22, 2025, by the NSE’s Capital Market Segment, the one-hour symbolic trading session will take place between 1:45 PM and 2:45 PM. The pre-open session will begin at 1:30 PM and end at 1:45 PM, while a block deal session will be held earlier, from 1:15 PM to 1:30 PM.

The detailed schedule for the Diwali Muhurat Trading session is as follows:

The exchange also noted that random closures will occur during certain sessions, such as between 1:37 PM and 1:38 PM for the pre-open period and between 2:34 PM and 2:35 PM for the call auction illiquid session, as part of its standard trading protocol.

All trades executed during the Muhurat Trading session will be considered regular trades and will result in settlement obligations, as in any normal trading day.

The circular, signed by Khushal Shah, Associate Vice President of the NSE, emphasized that the annual Muhurat Trading session continues to hold cultural and financial significance for investors and market participants. It marks the beginning of a new “Samvat” year, which is the traditional accounting year followed by many traders and investors in India.

Muhurat Trading, a long-standing Diwali tradition in the Indian stock market, is seen as an auspicious occasion to make new investments and start the financial year on a positive note. Both the NSE and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have hosted this symbolic trading ritual for decades, attracting participation from investors across the country.
