M.A.C Cosmetics has appointed Nicola Formichetti as its new Global Creative Director. Known for his bold and artistic style, Formichetti will report directly to Aïda Moudachirou-Rébois, M.A.C’s senior vice president and global general manager.
Formichetti, a well-known name in the fashion world, shared the news on Instagram, saying,
“I’m honored to share that I’m joining the team at @maccosmetics as Global Creative Director. Beauty has always been a big part of my creative journey and M.A.C has played a key role… M.A.C has always given me and our community a space to explore, take risks and play. Now I get to bring everything I’ve learned into something truly exciting. I’m looking forward to shaping the future of beauty with M.A.C and the team at Estée Lauder Group. It’s going to be a fun ride!”
This is not Formichetti’s first time working with the iconic cosmetics brand. He previously collaborated with M.A.C on the Viva Glam campaign and launched his own Nicopanda beauty collection.
Formichetti is also known for his work with celebrities like Lady Gaga, especially designing her famous meat dress at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. He has led creative efforts at major fashion houses and was creative director for Diesel from 2013 to 2017.
“M.A.C is an iconic brand that has always championed the people and communities that move culture forward,” he said. “The world is craving creativity, beauty, and connection—and I can’t wait to help bring that to life in a magical way.”
Aïda Moudachirou-Rébois praised the decision:
“Nicola is a once-in-a-generation creative talent who perfectly embodies the bold, fearless energy of M.A.C and our global community… His appointment is not only a celebration of artistry, but a reflection of our commitment to creativity and authenticity.”
Formichetti’s appointment comes at a challenging time for M.A.C’s parent company, Estée Lauder, which recently reported a 10% drop in third-quarter net sales to $3.6 billion. The company expects sales to fall further in 2025, especially in Asia and travel retail.
With Formichetti leading its creative direction, M.A.C. hopes to spark new energy and innovation, reconnect with consumers, and push the boundaries of beauty.
