The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), in collaboration with Startup India and the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), has announced the launch of the “Innovation Challenge for Development of Suitable Technologies for Rooftop Solar and Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE)” – a nationwide initiative to boost clean-tech innovation, particularly for underserved communities in India.
The challenge offers a total prize pool of ₹1.9 crore, including:
- ₹1 crore – First Prize
- ₹50 lakh – Second Prize
- ₹30 lakh – Third Prize
- ₹5 lakh each – 10 Consolation Prizes
Startups at all stages, including those in the ideation phase, are eligible to apply. The program aims to foster solutions that enhance affordability, resilience, inclusivity, and environmental sustainability in the deployment of renewable energy.
With an application process that takes less than 30 minutes, the challenge is designed to be accessible and open to innovators across the country.
Program Details
The challenge is open to all startups that are officially recognised by DPIIT. Startups from different stages, from the idea stage to the scaling stage, can take part. It also welcomes support from accelerators, incubators, investors, and mentors.
Who Can Join?
Any DPIIT-recognised startup working in areas like renewable energy, agriculture, green technology, AI, construction, finance, waste management, AR/VR, and many others. This includes businesses in both tech and non-tech sectors.
Challenge Themes
This year’s focus is on renewable energy, with a special interest in rooftop solar PV solutions.
