HI, WELCOME TO ABOUT INSIDER! THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO IS HILLARY LEWIS IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
Thank you so much for having me! I’m an actress and a singer. I’m a very creative person with a strong sense of humor. I’m super bubbly and outgoing and love to meet new people and make new friends. My friends would say that “’I’m a good listner who they can depend on in a crisis. . I love traveling and learning about different cultures. Acting and music are my life and I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to showcase my talents and be able to do what I love.
YOU HAVE AN IMPRESSIVE BACKGROUND IN BOTH ACTING AND MUSIC. CAN YOU SHARE HOW YOUR EXPERIENCES IN “THE KIDS TABLE” HAVE INFLUENCED YOUR MUSICAL JOURNEY, ESPECIALLY WITH THE RELEASE OF YOUR SINGLE “LOVE SPELL”?
The Kids Table is definitely my favorite project so far. I think the fonder I grew of acting, the more I fell in love with music. Acting was my first creative hobby and I knew I wanted to make a career out of it. I would say around the age I filmed A Kids Table was right around the time I got inspired to pursue music. I would always be writing random songs in my journal even though they were not good at that time haha. Love Spell is the first single I released, and will probably continue to be one of my favorites. I put my heart and soul into Love Spell while trying to make a hit Halloween song. I hope others enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

YOUR MUSIC HAS BEEN COMPARED TO THE SOUNDS OF OLIVIA RODRIGO AND BEACH BUNNY. WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INFLUENCES, AND HOW HAVE THEY SHAPED YOUR STYLE AND SOUND?
Ahh! I love Olivia Rodrigo and Beach Bunny, so this is definitely a huge compliment. When it comes to my music, I’m going down a very early 2000’s road. My current biggest musical influences are Avril Lavigne, Kesha, and Miley Cyrus. Each one of them have a very unique sound and style to them. And people like that. They like catchy. That’s what I want to do with my music. I want my songs to be so catchy that people get annoyed because they can’t get them out of their heads lol.
AS AN EMERGING INFLUENCER, WHAT DO YOU THINK SETS YOUR CONTENT APART FROM OTHERS, AND HOW DO YOU BALANCE YOUR COMEDIC PERSONA WITH YOUR MUSIC CAREER?
What sets my content apart from others is my genuine personality and comedic traits. I try my best to balance my comedic persona with my music. I laugh at myself sometimes when writing… I’m like this isn’t as deep as I’m making it. I feel emotions deep, so when I go through something it hits harder than it should sometimes. I think I cope with issues through comedy and that definitely shows in my music as well.
GROWING UP IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY MUST HAVE BEEN FASCINATING. WHAT WERE SOME OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES YOU FACED, AND HOW DID THEY HELP SHAPE WHO YOU ARE TODAY?
Some of the biggest challenges I faced was criticism, being told no, and feeling the need to be perfect. These are all a part of life. Criticism is something that every single person receives. Being told no is a given. Yes will never be the answer to everything in life. And feeling the need to be perfect… I’m sure we’ve all been there. These all shaped me into the person I am today because I’m a much stronger individual than I was growing up. I’m ok with criticism, in fact I actually appreciate it. Being told no is something I had to work very hard on, but now I take the answer no with ease. And the need to be perfect, I have accepted that I am not perfect and never will be. That’s the beauty of being human!
CAN YOU WALK US THROUGH THE CREATIVE PROCESS BEHIND “LOVE SPELL”? WHAT INSPIRED THE LYRICS AND THE OVERALL VIBE OF THE SONG?
Yes! Love Spell was the first song I ever recorded. I was about a year out of a breakup and still wasn’t over it lol. I was super into crystals and all that fun stuff at the time. I remember thinking, what if I did a love spell? I was feeling strong emotions at that time. It was around Halloween and I thought “what if I made a song that people could jam to for Halloween” as it’s one of my favorite Holidays. I definitely went for the pop punk genre with this song. My creative writing partner and I sat down, and we brainstormed and got the entire song written in an hour.
YOU’VE WORKED WITH SOME NOTABLE NAMES LIKE STEPHEN GLICKMAN AND THE D’AMBROSIO TWINS. WHAT’S THE MOST VALUABLE LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED FROM YOUR COLLABORATIONS WITH SUCH TALENTED INDIVIDUALS?
I became very good friends with Bianca and Chiara on set when we filmed A Kids Table. We’ve now known each other for years. I’ve learned so much from them when it comes to the entertainment industry. They are two of the most hardworking, talented individuals I know. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned from them is to not give up. Stephen Glickman was amazing to work with. I knew who he was from Big Time Rush, so I was stoked when I found out I was going to be filming something that was written and directed by him. The biggest lesson I learned from Stephen was to do everything. Be an actor, but also be a director, a producer, and a writer as well as a standup comedian. Use your talents to entertain in every path of the industry.

WHAT ROLE DO YOU SEE SOCIAL MEDIA PLAYING IN YOUR CAREER, BOTH AS AN INFLUENCER AND A MUSICIAN? HOW DO YOU STAY AUTHENTIC WHILE CONNECTING WITH YOUR AUDIENCE ONLINE?
Social Media is a great way to promote my upcoming projects in acting and my music! When it comes to being an influencer and a musician, I think the greatest way to stay authentic while connecting with my audience online is to just be myself. People gravitate towards individuality and uniqueness.
LOOKING AHEAD, WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS IN BOTH YOUR ACTING AND MUSIC CAREERS? ARE THERE ANY UPCOMING PROJECTS YOU’RE PARTICULARLY EXCITED ABOUT?
My goals and aspirations for the next few years are to book a lead role in a TV series. For music, I’m going to continue to release singles, and I would love the opportunity to be able to go on tour! I’m actually recording two songs currently and will be releasing them in the upcoming months. I’ve poured my heart and soul into the lyrics and there’s definitely a twist on the vibe… I’m so excited for listeners to hear them!
WHAT’S SOMETHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU THAT MIGHT SURPRISE US?
I went on a cross country road trip with one of my best friends and we came across the Hannah Montana filming locations from the movie. We were freaking out because this was one of our favorite movies growing up. And then… our car broke down in the middle of nowhere and we ended up taking a 22 hour train ride back to LA. Such a memorable experience!!
