HDFC ERGO General Insurance has announced that Parthanil Ghosh will become its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO). The Board of Directors has approved this decision, which will take effect on April 16, 2026, upon securing regulatory approvals.
Ghosh will take over from Anuj Tyagi, the current MD and CEO. This appointment still needs approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and other regulators before it becomes official.
This appointment is a key leadership change for one of India’s top general insurance companies. By choosing Parthanil Ghosh, HDFC ERGO is promoting an internal leader.
The board believes his broad insurance experience and deep understanding of the company will help steer HDFC ERGO through its next phase of growth.
This leadership change comes at a time when India’s general insurance industry is growing fast, driven by digital transformation and increased awareness of insurance products.
Parthanil Ghosh has been associated with HDFC ERGO since 2016, when he joined the company following the merger with L&T General Insurance.
Over the years, he has played an important role in shaping the company’s strategy and operations across various business areas.
In recognition of his contributions and leadership abilities, he was appointed Executive Director on May 1, 2025. His elevation to the role of MD and CEO reflects the confidence the company’s leadership has in his vision and ability to lead the organization.
While the board has approved the appointment, it will only become official after the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) gives its clearance.
IRDAI is the regulatory body that oversees India’s insurance sector. It ensures leadership appointments in insurance companies follow regulatory guidelines and uphold industry standards.
Once the approval process is complete, Parthanil Ghosh will officially become MD and CEO on April 16, 2026.
HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Limited is a joint venture between HDFC Ltd. and ERGO International AG, which is part of the Munich Re Group, one of the world’s leading reinsurance companies.
The company offers a wide range of insurance products, including health, motor, travel, and property insurance, serving both individuals and businesses across India.
With Parthanil Ghosh at the helm, HDFC ERGO is expected to continue focusing on innovation, digital growth, and making insurance more accessible throughout India.
