HI, WELCOME TO ABOUT INSIDER! THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, WHO IS NATALIE KOPYAN IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
First of all I consider myself a dancer, I have been dancing since a young age and dancing is my absolute passion. I am also an actress and model and have been in a few commercials and short films, as well as done some print and runway modeling. And finally, recently I delved into the world of singing and have really enjoyed it so far. I am actually a lead singer of a rock band called No Idea.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PURSUE A CAREER IN ACTING, DANCING, SINGING, AND MODELING?
My journey in the performing arts started with dance, which opened up a world of expressive possibilities for me. The transition into acting, modeling, and singing felt like a natural progression from there, driven by my passion and desire to explore various fields in the entertainment industry. Each discipline complements the others, I believe, and provides me with a unique set of skills needed to bring characters and emotions to life.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST REWARDING EXPERIENCE OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR, AND WHY?
Working with Mattel on a Barbie shoot was incredibly rewarding, especially because it happened around the same time as the release of the Barbie movie. The Barbie theme was everywhere, which added to the excitement. I loved working on this project as it allowed me to contribute to a brand that not only empowers and uplifts young girls but also resonates deeply with my own values and aspirations.
YOUR ROLE IN “DHAR MANN” GARNERED ATTENTION AND PRAISE. COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE WORKING ON THAT PROJECT AND HOW IT HAS IMPACTED YOUR CAREER?
Appearing in ‘Dhar Mann’ was a fantastic experience that taught me a lot about the power of impactful storytelling. The positive messages and real-life scenarios we portrayed reached a wide audience. I always love being on the Dhar Mann set because it’s a lot of fun, and I get to see the friends I’ve made over the years working on these short films. Dhar Mann was actually my very first acting job, and it helped me develop my acting skills while also allowing me to make lifelong friends.
“BARBIE-MATTEL” SEEMS LIKE AN EXCITING PROJECT. CAN YOU GIVE US SOME INSIGHTS INTO YOUR CHARACTER AND WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THIS ROLE?
I booked this job through my agent, and one of the highlights was that I got to dance on set during the shoot, which I really enjoyed. I absolutely loved changing into various fun Barbie outfits and experimenting with different hairstyles and makeup looks. Additionally, this was an international job, so it was thrilling to see myself in ads all over the world, including in Singapore and the Philippines.
AS AN ACTRESS, HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR EMOTIONALLY DEMANDING ROLES? DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIFIC RITUALS OR TECHNIQUES?
To prepare for emotionally demanding roles, I spend time thoroughly understanding the character’s background and motivations. I also use music to help me enter the right emotional state and often incorporate breathing exercises to deepen my connection with the character. These techniques help me deliver authentic and heartfelt performances.
IN ADDITION TO ACTING, YOU’RE ALSO A SKILLED DANCER. HOW DOES YOUR BACKGROUND IN DANCE INFLUENCE YOUR APPROACH TO ACTING AND PERFORMING?
My background in dance greatly enhances my approach to acting and performing. As a dancer, I’ve developed a deep awareness of movement and expression, which enhances my acting roles. In fact, on several sets – including the Barbie-Mattel project, a Living Spaces commercial, and even a Dhar Mann episode – I’ve had the opportunity to incorporate dancing directly into my performances. For the past three years, I have also been involved in musical theater productions where I enjoy the combination of acting, dancing, and singing, often in lead roles. Dancing has become a big part of my life, and this unique skill set not only enriches my portrayal of characters but also infuses the set with dynamic energy, making every project even more exciting.
WHAT’S SOMETHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU THAT MIGHT SURPRISE US?
Besides acting, dancing, singing, and modeling, I am also deeply involved in my academic life. I serve as president of the student council and several clubs on campus, captain of the mock trial team, and I’m a member of the math academy, where I’m studying calculus in 8th grade.
ANY UPCOMING PROJECTS/ROLES YOU CAN TALK ABOUT?
I am excited about several upcoming projects, but I can’t reveal details just yet. However, I am also thrilled to be partnering as an influencer with some amazing brands. I’m truly looking forward to sharing more with you soon and can’t wait to see what the future holds!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ASPIRING PERFORMERS WHO ARE LOOKING TO PURSUE A CAREER IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY?
Stay positive and keep on training! It is important in this field not to give up and also always be open to learning from different people and experiences. The path in entertainment is not always easy, so you must stay resilient and adaptable. Most importantly, enjoy the journey and express yourself authentically.
