Denise Dresser, Chief Executive Officer of Slack, is set to take on a new role in artificial intelligence. A memo shared internally and confirmed by multiple sources states that Dresser is leaving Slack to join OpenAI as Chief Revenue Officer, where she will oversee the company’s global revenue strategy for enterprise sales and customer success.
Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, which owns Slack, shared the announcement with employees, marking the end of an important chapter for Dresser at the workplace messaging platform. Her move comes at a pivotal moment for OpenAI, as businesses worldwide increasingly integrate AI into operations.
In her new role, Dresser will help organizations adopt AI at scale, moving beyond experimentation to reliable, enterprise-wide deployment. OpenAI described her appointment as a strategic step to support its rapid growth, noting the company has become one of the fastest-growing business platforms in history.
Dresser brings deep experience in building and scaling enterprise businesses. Most recently, she served as CEO of Slack, where she led the company through its integration with Salesforce and helped redefine how AI-enhanced tools improve collaboration, productivity, and workplace communication. Under her leadership, Slack strengthened its position as a core platform for modern work.
Before joining Slack, Dresser spent more than a decade at Salesforce, where she built and led global sales organizations and worked with some of the company’s largest and most complex customers. Her background gives her a strong understanding of enterprise needs, customer behaviour, and the challenges of scaling technology platforms across industries.
Commenting on her appointment, Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, said that the company is on a mission to put AI tools into the hands of millions of workers worldwide. She noted that Dresser has led similar transformations before and will play a key role in making AI practical, reliable, and accessible for businesses everywhere.
Dresser said she is excited to help guide OpenAI through its next phase of enterprise transformation. She emphasised her passion for scaling category-defining platforms and enabling organisations to use technology in meaningful, day-to-day ways.
OpenAI reports that AI adoption is already delivering measurable benefits. A large majority of workers say AI has improved the speed or quality of their work, with many saving significant time each week and gaining the ability to complete tasks that were previously out of reach. Today, more than one million business customers, including major global brands, use OpenAI’s technology in customer service, internal operations, and core workflows.
With Denise Dresser stepping in as Chief Revenue Officer, OpenAI signals its intent to deepen its enterprise focus and accelerate the shift from AI experimentation to real-world, large-scale business impact.
