HELLO PRAHAAN PADHIAR, WELCOME TO ABOUT INSIDER! HAS THERE BEEN ONE PARTICULAR MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER THAT YOU’RE MOST PROUD OF?
A particularly memorable experience was when I played Norman for the first time in Eric Bogosian’s “Suburbia”. My parents had flown all the way from India to watch me perform, marking the first time they’d seen me act since my childhood. Naturally, I was quite nervous, but I successfully channeled that nervousness into excitement and delivered a performance that made my parents proud and deeply moved them. Seeing the pride in their eyes was incredibly rewarding, and it affirmed that their constant support and encouragement had truly paid off.

WHAT’S BEEN THE PROS AND CONS OF PURSUING YOUR ACTING CAREER?
I think the pros are that acting is something I love very much and doesn’t feel like work to me.It’s a way for me to express myself in an artistic way.As you move from one production to another, you get the opportunity to meet a lot of very talent people, with different backgrounds, skillsets, and ages. You get to witness firsthand the impact your work creates on people, especially in the theater.

For the cons, you face a lot of rejection, which can be disheartening at times. It is not always the most financially stable profession, and it is almost impossible to accurately predict where you’ll end up in the future.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN SHAKESPEARE’S A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM.
A “Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare is a comedic play exploring love, magic, and mistaken identities. Set in an enchanted forest near Athens, it follows four young lovers whose affections become hilariously tangled due to the mischievous fairy Puck and his magical interference. Meanwhile, a group of amateur actors rehearses a play, inadvertently becoming entangled in the fairies’ antics. As the human and fairy worlds collide, chaos and humor ensue, ultimately leading to resolution and reconciliation, affirming the whimsical, unpredictable nature of love.

WHAT ROLE DO YOU PLAY IN THE STAGE PRODUCTION?
I play Theseus in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was an incredible experience that I truly cherished. As the Duke of Athens, Theseus is a figure of authority, wisdom, and reason, which made stepping into his role both challenging and rewarding. I loved embodying his commanding presence while also exploring his more nuanced qualities, his sense of justice, his appreciation for love, and even his ability to enjoy humor by the end of the play.

Through this role, I learned a great deal about balancing strength with subtlety in performance. Theseus may be a ruler, but he is also a man preparing for marriage, which allowed me to bring warmth and depth to his character rather than playing him as purely rigid. Additionally, performing Shakespeare gave me the opportunity to refine my voice, movement, and ability to handle classical text, all of which have strengthened me as an actor.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU FOUND WITH THE PLAY?
The rehearsal time for this play was incredibly short. We had only three days, and I was only able to attend one of them. This forced me to adapt to a fast-paced rehearsal process, which was both challenging and eye-opening. Although I was initially nervous about having just one day to prepare before opening night, I ultimately embraced the challenge and found it to be an exciting learning experience. It pushed me to trust my instincts, stay focused, and quickly adapt to direction, all of which made the performance even more rewarding.

HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED?
A friend of mine, who was also acting in the production, believed I would be a good fit for the play and was kind enough to recommend me to the director. Following his recommendation, I submitted a self-tape, though I wasn’t sure which role I might be considered for. I was thrilled when I was cast as Theseus, a character I thoroughly enjoyed bringing to life.

This production was rehearsed and performed at the Hollywood Fringe Festival at The Actor’s Company in Los Angeles

JUST FOR FUN…IF YOU WENT BACK TO THE GOLDEN ERA OF HOLLYWOOD, WHICH ACTOR DO YOU RESONATE WITH MOST AND WHY?
I believe I would really resonate with Katharine Hepburn. Not only do I think she’s an incredibly talented actress, with four Academy Awards, but I also find her unconventional style and sense of independence both on and off the screen inspiring.
