In a strategic move that underscores Hyderabad’s growing appeal as a business hub, global fast-food giant McDonald’s has signed an investment agreement with the Telangana government to establish its Global India Office in the city. The new office is expected to generate approximately 2000 job opportunities, reinforcing the state’s reputation as a prime destination for multinational investments.
McDonald’s Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski and senior executives met with Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at the state Assembly chamber on Wednesday. The discussions culminated in a formal agreement between McDonald’s and the state government, signifying a major milestone for both the brand and the region.
Prominent attendees at the event included State Chief Secretary A Shanthikumari, IT and Industries Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Special Secretary to the CM Ajith Reddy, McDonald’s Global Business Services President Sky Anderson, Chief Global Impact Officer John Banner, and Global India Head Deshana Kaila. Their presence highlighted the significance of this investment and its potential impact on the regional economy.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed his enthusiasm and emphasized the importance of McDonald’s choosing Telangana over other competing states. He assured the company that full government support would be provided to facilitate the setup and operation of the new office.
“It is a matter of pride that McDonald‘s has chosen Telangana for its Global India Office. The government will extend all necessary assistance. In the last 15 months, we have launched several skill development initiatives, and we will leverage Young India Skills University to train candidates for McDonald’s global operations. This university will serve as a skills hub, creating employment not only in the new office but also in McDonald’s outlets across India and beyond,” said the Chief Minister.
In addition to the job creation aspect, CM Reddy encouraged McDonald’s to source agricultural products from local farmers rather than importing from other states or countries. This initiative aims to support Telangana’s farming community and contribute to the state’s agricultural economy.
McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski cited Hyderabad’s robust infrastructure and high quality of life as key factors in the company’s decision to establish its Global India Office in the city, rather than in traditional business hubs like Bengaluru. He also outlined McDonald’s global community development programs and future expansion plans within Telangana.
Currently operating 38 outlets in Telangana, McDonald’s has announced plans to open three to four new outlets annually, further solidifying its regional presence. Establishing the Global India Office is expected to enhance the brand’s operational efficiency and pave the way for future growth in India.
With this investment, McDonald’s strengthens its footprint in India and contributes to job creation, economic development, and skill enhancement in Telangana.
